2011-09-02 Friday News September 9, 2011 September 9, 2011 Dakota County: Good for Business Dakota County Community Development Agency hosted a county-wide meeting on economic development Wednesday morning. Sandra Krebsbach, Ultan Duggan, Sandie Thone and Jake Sedlacek were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to share success stories from local businesses, and to introduce Greater MSP, a new non -profit organization taking the lead in a regional approach to economic development. Speakers from Goodrich Aerospace, Thomson Rueters and CF Industries described their companies and why they chose to keep their headquarters in Dakota County. Michael Langley, of Greater MSP described how his organization will be working to increase awareness of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area as a good place for growing businesses. Mr. Langley also described the role of local governments in making the area a healthy business environment. Old Sibley Memorial Highway City staff was contacted this week by MnDOT officials that there would be proposals coming out this winter depicting alternatives to vacate Right-of-Way for Old Sibley Memorial Highway from Mendota Heights Road to Highway 13. Options for the roadway include, but are not limited to, turn-back to Dakota County, turn- back to Mendota Heights, transfer to Park Service or State DNR, or roadway removal. Sketch plans of possible alternatives are expected in the December 2011 – January 2012 timeframe. The process will be well publicized, and will include opportunity for public input. This morning, members from all subcommittees met to report on progress to date.
