2011-10-14 Friday News October 14, 2011 October 14, 2011 Pilot Knob Open House There was beautiful weather for the open house at Historic Pilot Knob on Sunday. The open house was for the Partners in Preservation Grant Program. Pilot Knob Preservation brought some nice displays on the history of the site. Jake Sedlacek from the city and Todd Rexine from Great River Greening were also on hand to answer questions about the site. The event was well attended, keeping volunteers busy all afternoon. The City Offers Administrator Position to Justin Miller The City Council has offered its top position to Justin Miller, city administrator of Falcon Heights. In addition, Miller previously worked as the Assistant City Manager for Chanhassen and in the city of Des Moines, Iowa. Miller was one of three finalists including Michael Ericson, city administrator of Hugo and Samantha Orduno, city administrator of Dayton interviewed by the city council. The council unanimously chose Justin citing his energy, vision and professionalism as a good fit for the city. Miller accepted a conditional offer and we anticipate him to begin as City Administrator sometime in December. The highlight of the week is the Fire Department Open House, this Saturday, October 15, 2011. The open house is held at the Fire Hall, starting at 10:00 a.m. Bring the family to check out the fire trucks, get valuable fire prevention tips and enjoy a free hotdog and soda. The dance is a fundraiser for the Fire Relief Association– tickets are available prior to the event at City Hall for $12 or can be bought at the door for $15. Bonfire Reminder Residents will be allowed to deposit brush for the Halloween Bonfire, October 24, 2011 through October 28, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. If the site is full, it will be gated off. Brush must be less than 4” in diameter and no grass clippings or leaves are allowed. The bonfire itself is set for 7:00 p.m. on October 31, 2011. There will be free hotdogs and soda compliments of Mendota Heights Fire Department. Paster Enterprises and Mendota Plaza merchants will also be handing out free goodie bags.
