2011-08-05 Friday News August 5, 2011 August 5, 2011 2012 Budget Work Session The City Council held their 2012 budget work session this week along with a number of city staff members. The council reviewed each of the proposed departmental budgets for next year and listened to staff reasoning for proposed changes for next year. The budget session went very well and some very worthwhile discussions were had between the city council and city staff. There are only a few unresolved issues for the 2012 that remain on the table and those issues will be brought back between now and the end of November for additional discussions and decisions. Thank you to the City Council and all of the city staff members who participated in putting the draft 2012 budget together. Your work is very much appreciated and the efforts you put into the sound financial planning for the future of Mendota Heights is appreciated by current and future residents to come. Fishing Derby Fast Approaching The Cliff Timm Memorial Fishing Derby will take place again this year on Sunday, September 11, 2011. The derby is for those 14 years of age and younger. Participants must pre-register either at City Hall or online. The cost of the event is $8.00 per child. Check-in will start at 3:00 p.m. with the fishing starting at 3:30 p.m. Entertainment, prizes and the awards program will start at 4:30 p.m. Bring your fishing pole and head on down to Rogers Lake Fishing Pier to try and catch the big one. Prizes and goodie bags will be awarded. Even if your kids do not fish you are welcome to head out to Rogers Lake and check out the action. There is no better way to spend a fall Sunday afternoon than to see the excitement of the children catching fish and winning a prize. See you at the park! Dakota County Fair The annual Dakota County Fair will be held August 8-14, 2011 in Farmington. This fair features a wide variety of rides, food, booths and entertainment opportunities for the entire family. The county fair was established in 1858 and always provides a fun day for those who attend. To find out more about what the fair has to offer this year you can visit www.dakotacountyfair.org. Robin has been a member of the Airport Relations Commission since February 2006 and currently serves as the commission vice-chair. Robin has played a key role in working with the Metropolitan Airports Commission on a number of issues important to Mendota Heights. Robin’s last meeting as a member of the commission will be August 10, 2011. Thank you for your service to the community Robin. Your insight and community knowledge will be sorely missed by your fellow commissioners and city staff. Good luck in the future and thanks for everything you do for Mendota Heights. Fire Department The Fire Department responded to a house fire on Sibley Court this week after a house was struck by lightning and started a fire. It took the department about an hour to put out the fire and ensure that there were no lingering issues. Thank you to the Fire Department for your quick response to this fire, for helping the residents deal with this issue and for the work you do for our community!
