roadways
Wed, June 1 | 5-7pm | Veterans Memorial Community Center
Dakota County is hosting an open house as part of the Regional Roadway System
Visioning Study (RRSVS) Update. The public is invited to attend to learn more about the
potential roadway network improvements, ask questions, and share feedback on draft
recommendations.
If you are unable to attend, open house materials will be available on the project website
at dakotacounty.us, search Roadway Vision Update. Questions and comments can be
submitted to the project team through an online comment form that will be available May 31
through June 24.

Mendota Heights City Council members.
Seeking high school student representatives for
two commissions
The City's Parks and Recreation Commission and Natural Resources Commission are each
seeking a high school student representative to serve for the 2022-2023 school year.
Student representatives serve on the advisory commission as a non-voting member, and
provide a communications link for ideas, observations, concerns, and questions. Students
must be able to attend monthly commission meetings from September 2022 to May 2023,
and must be a Mendota Heights resident attending any high school (grades 9-12).
Interested students must apply by Friday, June 10, 2022, for consideration.

Aspen House anticipated to be ready to serve youth
this fall
Earlier this month Dakota County purchased the property located at 2031 Victoria Road
South. The County is partnering with Nexus Family Healing to license the facility to provide
temporary emergency housing and support services for youth who do not have a safe place
to stay. The shared root system symbolizing a network of support and the resiliency of
Aspen trees, which are found in Dakota County, inspired the name for the new facility –
Aspen House.
Also earlier this month, the Neighborhood and Community Advisory Team held its first
meeting. This Team includes community stakeholders and nearby residents working to build
partnerships to make Aspen House a successful place in the community.
Remodeling will begin soon and will last throughout the summer. Aspen House will be ready
to serve children this fall. The County will continue to send periodic updates to nearby
residents and others interested in learning more, including information on an open house
and ribbon cutting ceremony. Contact Madeline Kastler, Deputy Director of Social Services,

Participate in No Mow May
Mendota Heights residents can help create habitat and food sources for pollinators during
the month of May, by choosing not to mow their yard, or mow less frequently. City Council
passed a motion at the April 19 City Council meeting supporting ‘No-Mow May’ and
suspending the City’s height restriction for vegetation in residential yards beginning May
1 of 2022. Businesses, commercial sites, and all other properties still need to comply with
the City’s Weed and Noxious Vegetation ordinance. Residents and all properties must come
back into compliance by Monday, June 6, 2022.
You can download and print off a ‘No-Mow May’ sign to place in your yard through the
Xerxes Society’s website at xerces.org/publications/other/no-mow-may

The city is partnering with United Heroes League to
collect good-condition athletic gear and equipment
which will be donated to military families in need. United
Heroes League is a nonprofit organization that keeps
military kids active and healthy through sports while
their parents serve our country. So far, they have helped
over 50,000 military families keep or start their kids in
sports. United Heroes League wants to ensure that all
five million military kids are able to develop critical life
skills through sports.

Gearing up for summer fun
Tune up your bike, grab your helmet, and join community members on a monthly summer
bike ride. Folks on Spokes rides are casual with an emphasis on social. Routes are
between 7-15 miles, with stopes every 3-4 miles, at an average pace of 8-10 MPH. Rides
will start and finish at the same location, and take place in Mendota Heights or neighboring
cities. This a free event, however registration is required to be on the email list that
announces routes. Route information is sent via email about one week prior to ride dates.
This program is in partnership with the Cities of WSP and SSP.
