March Food Campaign
Neighbors, Inc.'s March FoodShare Campaign will run from March 1 through April 11 this
year. Some requested items are: soup, canned fruit, canned meat and canned vegetables.
Items may be conveniently donated in the collection barrel at City Hall during business
hours, and monetary donations are accepted at www.neighborsmn.org.
Food shelves from across the state engage in the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign
friendly competition to see who can raise the most pounds of food and/or monetary
donations. Donations can go even further in March thanks to additional grant money
allocated based on competition ranking. The March Campaign helps stock food shelves
statewide.

Opening on Airport
Relations Commission
Apply by 4:30 p.m. March 3
The City is accepting applications to fill an
opening on the Airport
Relations Commission. The term will start
immediately when appointed and run
through January 2022. The commission
advises the City Council on matters pertaining to the MSP airport. The Commission
monitors proposed rules, procedures, and programs which impact the airport noise levels
experienced in Mendota Heights, and makes recommendations to the City Council
regarding strategies to mitigate the city’s air noise exposure. Regular meetings are typically
held the third Wednesday of odd numbered months beginning at 6:00 P.M. Interested
persons should submit a letter of interest and a current resume to Assistant City
Administrator Cheryl Jacobson (cherylj@mendota-heights.com) no later than 4:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Questions can be directed to Cheryl Jacobson

Canoe rack permit applications open for Rogers
Lake
Due March 1 for first priority
The City of Mendota Heights offers rack rental at Rogers Lake to store canoes and kayaks
from April through November; the permit cost is $75. Those interested must complete and
submit a yearly Canoe Rack Permit Request Application. Mendota Heights residents have
an opportunity for first priority by submitting a Canoe Permit Request Application by the first
business day in March. After March 1, any unassigned racks will be made available to non-
Mendota Heights residents. Submitting a request for a permit application, or having a permit
from the prior year, does not automatically guarantee that a permit will be issued; please
refer to the Canoe Rack Rental Policy for details. Before using the storage rack, all users
must have a valid permit for the current calendar year issued by the City of Mendota
Heights.

Accepting applications for Police Officer position
The City of Mendota Heights is currently accepting applications for the position of Police
Officer. Successful candidates must have an Associate's degree in law enforcement or
related field, and be licensed by the P.O.S.T. Board or eligible for licensing by April 1, 2021.
Candidates must be committed to community policing and be team oriented with strong
communication and interpersonal skills. Other requirements include a valid driver's license
and the ability to pass a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, and a
physical examination including drug testing.
Starting salary is $5,538-$6,335 per month (DOQ), plus excellent benefits including
educational incentives. Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest, resume,
city employment application and application supplement by 4:30 pm on March 23,
2021. Applications must be received, not postmarked, by the deadline for consideration.

Recent highlights
At its meeting on Feb 16 the City Council outlined its goals and objectives for the next
two years; view the five priority areas and draft of action items as proposed to
Council. Action items will be brought back to Council at a later date for review and
approval.
Town Square TV/NDC4 are currently seeking Independent Contractor camera

The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking input on the results of a national
Neighborhood Environmental Survey showing an increase in airplane noise
annoyance at lower noise levels; link here to the survey and comment by March 15,
2021.

Sale begins March 1
The Recycling Association of Minnesota’s annual spring sale begins online March 1. Dakota
County residents receive a 30-percent discount when ordering a compost bin or rain barrel
using the promo code Dakota. Find product details and place orders (beginning March 1)
at recycleminnesota.org/work/compost-bins-rain-barrels. Proof of residency is required at
time of pickup for all promo code orders.
Selections include the following, which are made from recycled materials:
Home Composter Compost Bin: $66 + tax ($46.20 + tax with discount code)
Rain Catcher Rain Barrel: $79 + tax ($55.30 + tax with discount code)
Pre-ordered bins and barrels can be picked up at the City of Mendota Heights Public Works
on Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m.to noon or at any one of other distribution events in the
metro area.

Pond hockey rink removal
Our temperatures are suddenly feeling more like spring and less like January. If you have
created a hockey rink on one of the many ponds in Mendota Heights, this means it is time to
start taking nets, lights, chairs, benches, and other rink items off of ponds. With the warmer
temperatures, ice may become too unsafe to walk on, and items left behind will sink to the
bottom of our ponds. These items can cause water pollution, as well as create a flooding
and safety hazard, as they can interfere with the City’s storm sewer and drainage system.
Please remove any items that you have placed on ponds, as well as any trash or debris,
within the next week. The deadline for fish shelter removal in Minnesota is March 1, 2021.
This is a good guideline to follow for items placed on ponds as well.
Recent highlights
The City is currently updating its Natural Resources Management Plan with a Phase
1 Draft available to review. The plan will serve as a tool to help guide the City in
making decisions and taking actions to conserve and manage its natural resources.

Warming houses are closed
Based on the current poor conditions of the ice and the inability to successfully flood rinks
due to the recent heatwave, warming houses will be closed for the remainder of the season.
Rinks will continue to be on automatic light timers through the first week of March. Thank
