FRIDAY NEWS | November 20, 2020 THE LATEST Pushing pause to save lives, slow the spread, and support frontline workers In an effort to combat the spike in COVID-19 cases, the Governor has issued a new executive order limiting social gatherings, both indoors and outdoors, to your immediate household only, from November 20 to December 18, 2020, and for safety reasons no one outside of your household should enter your home with certain exceptions as noted in the executive order. As a targeted approach to combat community spread, new restrictions are also announced for bars, restaurants, health clubs, entertainment venues, and other establishments, as well as organized adult and youth sports. While indoor and outdoor dining is prohibited, we can continue to support Mendota Heights restaurants by ordering drive-thru, curbside, take-out, and contactless delivery. staysafe.mn.gov | Executive Order 20-99 Find a free COVID-19 community testing event The Minnesota Department of Health is hosting both saliva and nasal swab testing events throughout Minnesota. Subscribe to updates from City of Mendota Heights Email Address Subscribe Share Bulletin City Council accepting applications for vacant seat Applications due by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020 The City of Mendota Heights is accepting applications from citizens interested in an appointment to fill the remaining term of a council position. The term will be up for election at the November 8, 2022, General Election. The Council may appoint an individual who is eligible for election to the office of City Council. Generally, to be eligible a person must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the City, and at least 21 years old. Application forms are due by November 30, 2020, and a link to the packet can be found below. You may attach more sheets for your answers if you need to, but please adhere to the 300 word limits where specified. If you wish, you may also attach a resume. Depending on how many applications are received, it is expected that on December 8, the Council will narrow the number of candidates to the number to be interviewed. The date of the interviews will be Monday, December 14, with the first interview to begin at 5 p.m. Application forms are also available at City Hall, 1101 Victoria Curve, Mendota Heights, MN 55118; by calling City Hall at 651-452-1850; or send an email to Lorri Smith, City Clerk, lorris@mendota-heights.com. Applications will be reviewed and interviews conducted in December, prior to making the appointment to fill the position. 2020 City Council Candidate Application Packet Public meeting announcements City Council meetings to being at 5 p.m. in January, returning to a virtual format The City Council has scheduled its first meeting of next year for Tuesday, January 12, 2021. Beginning in January, City Council meetings will have a new start time of 5:00 p.m. Additionally, in response to the pandemic the Council has decided to hold all meetings beginning January 2021 and after virtually. Watch for more information on how the public can attend and participate in the virtual meetings in the near future. City Council Work Sessions scheduled The City Council has scheduled a Work Session for Tuesday, December 8 at 3:15 p.m. to discuss and narrow down the candidate applications for the open City Council seat, and changes needed to the 2040 Comp Plan; location to be announced. There will also be a Work Session on Monday, December 14 at 5 p.m. to interview selected candidates for the open City Council seat; location to be announced. Drop off donations through Wednesday, December 9 The Mendota Heights Police Department is once again collecting donations for two organizations this year: Holiday gifts for teens & tweens benefiting A Place of Hope. Please keep gifts unwrapped when donating. Shelf-stable food items benefiting Neighbors, Inc. Drop off items in the collection bins at City Hall and the Police Department lobby during regular business hours. Get donation ideas for gifts and learn more. Providing meals for the National Guard The Northern Dakota County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon provided 50 Thanksgiving meals for National Guard members in Detroit Lakes. RECYCLING Free recycling resources available for apartments, condos, and townhomes Refer your apartment, condo or townhome to get recycling help. Mendota Heights’ recycling coordinator would like to connect with multifamily properties in need of better recycling. The recycling coordinator can provide free recycling resources such as recycling bins, labels, tote bags and more through the Dakota County Multifamily Recycling Program. ACCEPTED: Rigid plastic signs cardboard signs, metal stakes NOT ACCEPTED: Flags or fabric signs, stretchy plastic signs Signs are also being accepted at the Lakeville Maintenance Facility and Hastings Parks & Recreation Building. Now through January 31 As you begin decorating for the holidays and run into that string that will no longer light, swing by City Hall and drop it into the collection barrel for recycling. In addition to holiday lights, you can drop off electrical cords, appliance cords, and phone cords through the end of January. Lights attached to wreaths, holly or trees must be removed first. Holiday lights are also accepted year round at The Recycling Zone in Eagan. NATURAL RESOURCES Help protect local lakes and rivers Applications are being accepted to become a Minnesota Water Steward The Lower Mississippi River Water Management Organization would like to sponsor two Minnesota Water Stewards this year. Minnesota Water Stewards (MWS) work within their communities as knowledgeable, certified citizens to improve local water health through education, raising awareness, and coordinating projects that reduce water pollution, and protect and conserve water.
