FRIDAY NEWS | August 21, 2020 THE LATEST Marie Avenue street improvements update The City awarded a contract earlier this year for the reconstruction of Marie Avenue, from Lexington Avenue to Dodd Road. Significant repairs were needed due to a deterioration of much of the driving surface. Currently, the contractor, S.M. Hentges, is nearing completion of the project. The contractor has completed the necessary curb repairs, placed the base layers of asphalt, and has completed all underground utility work. The repairs are complete to the 400 foot-long Marie Avenue bridge which is between Trail Road and Sutton Lane, except for final testing and the curing of the concrete driving surface. The contractor is grading the trails in preparation for paving next week; a new section of trail has been added between Lilac Road and Victoria Road. Water is being removed from the Lexington/Marie Pond, so that dredging and other maintenance can take place. Restoration of any disturbed areas will follow once the trails are paved. Native plantings will be placed in “bump out” areas along the roadway late this fall and next spring. Because of safety concerns, the road will remain closed to through traffic until the project is complete. If you would like more information on this project, please contact the Engineering Department at City Hall (651-452-1850). The Goombas live in concert tonight!
