Time to pack in those last minute summer plans before kids are all back in school mode. As you head out or have friends over and gear up for some fun, be safe and be smart! We want everyone to get back home alive and well. Keep the following  Don’t drink and drive. DWIs can have tragic results and cost a lot of money for drunk drivers. The Minnesota Department of Public Safety estimates that the total cost for a DWI can be as high as $20,000 when factoring in court costs, legal fees and increased insurance premiums.  Move over. The Ted Foss Move Over Law was named in memory of State Trooper Ted Foss who was killed while on the shoulder of I-90 in Winona in 2000. The law simply states that when traveling on a road with two or more lanes, drivers must keep more than one full lane away from stopped emergency vehicles when their flashing lights are activated.  Secure your load. MN state law requires that no part of a load become loose or fall into a lane of traffic. An object weighing just 20 pounds that falls from a vehicle at 55 mph strikes with an impact of half a ton.  Drive distraction-free. As a driver, your job is to drive. Anything you do that takes you away from that job is a distraction and increases your chances of crash- ing. Each year in Minnesota distracted driving is a factor in one of four crashes re- sulting in at least 70 deaths and 350 serious injuries.  Be patient. Don’t let traffic stress you out! Plan for extra travel time, listen to some great tunes, podcasts or audio books to keep you calm! 2 DWI — LEXINGTON AVE/CULLEN AVE 08/25/18, 0241 HOURS Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving on the shoulder.
