Mendota Heights Welcomes Minnehaha Academy
This past Wednesday, the City’s Planning Commission and City Council held special
meetings to consider action to accommodate the temporary relocation of Minnehaha
Academy, to a location in Mendota Heights. The Minneapolis-based Academy’s 9th-
12th grade building was damaged in an explosion on August 2nd.
The Planning Commission and City Council approved an Interim Use Permit for the
temporary occupancy of the former Sanford Brown College building, located at 1340
Mendota Heights Road. As a result, Minnehaha Academy is now authorized to use
the building for the next two school years.
Employees of Mortenson Construction and the City’s development review team have
been working hard to renovate the Brown College building. Mendota Heights wel-
comes Minnehaha Academy to their new home!

Lilydale Road Natural Gas Pipeline Relocation Project
Xcel Energy is installing two, one-half mile long, natural gas pipelines that will run
between the Mendota natural gas regulator station near the Lilydale Senior Living
Center to northeast of the Yacht Club in Lilydale.
Beginning on September 5, Lilydale Rd. between Hwy 13 and the Pool and Yacht
Club and portions of the Big Rivers Regional Trail will be closed through fall 2017.
Detours will be posted in advance and are also available on the project website.
Please plan ahead and take alternative routes during construction.

Xcel Energy is relocating two, approximately
one-half mile natural gas pipelines that will
run between the Mendota natural gas regulator
station near the Lilydale Senior Living Center
to slightly northeast of the Yacht Club in
Lilydale, Minn.
Lilydale Road Natural Gas Pipeline Relocation
Project will provide safe, reliable service to
our current and new customers within the
area. This modernization project supports
other infrastructure improvement efforts in
the area as well.
Xcel Energy crews and contractors will use
a combination of trenching and directional
drilling to install pipe. Directional drilling will
be used beneath roadways and under trails
to help limit impacts to traffic and natural
resources during construction.

SUPPLY SAFETY
To prevent injury, backpacks
should have wide straps,
padding in the back and
shoulders, and should not weigh
more than 10 to 15 percent of a
child’s body weight.
When placing items in a
backpack, place the heavier
items in first. The closer the
heavier items are to a child’s
back, the less strain it will cause.
Children should use both
backpack straps and all
compartments for even
distribution of weight.
Remove drawstrings from
jackets, sweatshirts, and
hooded shirts to reduce the risk
of strangulation injuries.
Art supplies in the classroom
should always be child safe and
non-toxic. Be sure they have
“CONFORMS TO ASTM D-4236”
on their packaging.
Make sure your child’s school is
up-to-date on the latest recalled
children’s products and toys.
SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
Make habit of arriving at the
bus stop at least five minutes
before the scheduled arrival of
the bus.
Make sure your child stays out
of the street and avoids
excessive horseplay while
waiting for the school bus.
Be sure the bus comes to a
complete stop before getting
on or off.
When riding the bus, make sure
your child understands they
must remain seated and keep
their head and arms inside the
bus at all times.
Do not shout or distract the
driver.
Do not walk in the driver’s
“blind spot” — this is the area
from the front of the bus to
about 10 feet in front of the
bus.

THEFT — Lilydale Road 8/18/2017, 0719 HOURS
Responded to the 1600 block of Lilydale Road to take a theft from construction trailer report. No suspect
information. Property entered in NCIC as stolen. Case currently inactive.
DOMESTIC — 2XXX Hwy 13 8/18/2017, 1530 HOURS
Responded to a report of a physical domestic at a motel in the 2100 block of Highway 13. Upon arrival,
officers discovered that a female involved had multiple stab wounds. Investigation is ongoing to determine
whether they are self-inflicted or the result of an assault.
THEFT — 7XX South Plaza Drive 8/18/2017, 1833 HOURS
Responded to the 700 block of South Plaza Drive on a reported theft that occurred about two weeks ago.
Case is under investigation.
THEFT OF VEHICLE — 1XXX Hwy 110 8/19/2017, 2230 HOURS
Dispatched a theft of a vehicle at the 1000 block of Hwy 110. The owner of the vehicle was assaulted and
had his vehicle stolen by someone he had prior contact with. The owner was transported to Burnsville were
he was staying. The stolen vehicle was located. The suspect was later identified and officers attempted to
make contact but were unable.
THEFT OF VEHICLE — 8XX Sibley Memorial Hwy 8/20/2017, 1340 HOURS
Responded to the 800 block of Highway 13 to take a theft of vehicle report.
FOUND PROPERTY — Crown Point Drive 8/20/2017, 1438 HOURS
Reporting party dropped off knife found alongside a bike path in the Crown Point neighborhood. The
folding knife was dirty, in poor condition and appeared to have been out in the elements for some time.
The knife was discarded.
DRUG PARAPHERNALIA — 110 E 8/20/2017, 1927 HOURS
During a routine traffic stop on Highway 110, Officers on scene smelled what they believed to be the odor
of burnt marijuana. A vehicle search was conducted and drug paraphernalia was located. A citation was
issued to the owner of the drug paraphernalia. The paraphernalia was logged into evidence.
PD ACCIDENT — Windy Ridge Place 8/20/2017, 1920 HOURS
Dispatched to a one vehicle accident that occurred on Windy Ridge Pl. The driver backed out of a driveway
and struck a Comcast post. Information gathered. Report written.
TRAFFIC STOP — Mendota Heights Road 8/20/2017, 2334 HOURS
Officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle on the 1000 block of Mendota Heights Road. The juvenile
driver of the vehicle did not have a drivers license nor did any other juvenile passengers in the vehicle. The
driver was cited and each of the juveniles parents picked up them up. The vehicle was released to its
registered owner.
THEFT — 1XXX Northland Drive ` 8/21/2017, 1025 HOURS
Reporting party had front plate to have been taken from the 1200 block of Northland Drive sometime on
08/18/17 while parked at work. No suspects or witnesses.

THEFT — 2XXX Dodd Road ` 8/21/2017, 1117 HOURS
Responded to the 2000 block of Dodd Rd concerning after the fact gas theft. Vehicle left E/B Hwy 110, area
checked and vehicle not located. Two possible plate combinations were given but did not match. No
further action wanted by reporting party.
DAMAGE TO PROPERTY — 9XX Mendota Heights Road 8/21/2017, 1329 HOURS
An employee at a school in the 900 block of Mendota Heights Road reported that they had found damage
on to windows and gas lines on the roof of the school. Security cameras showed 3 -4 young white males
climbing on and off of the roof on 08/12 and 08/19.
THEFT — 9XX Sibley Memorial Hwy 8/21/2017, 2010 HOURS
Officers responded to the 9xx block of Sibley Memorial Highway for a report of a theft in progress. One of
the suspect threw a hotdog at the witness and the two suspects fled. Officers located the suspects and they
paid for the hotdog and were trespassed from the business.
WARRANT ARREST — 1XXX Mendota Heights Road 8/22/2017, 0214 HOURS
Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Mendota Heights Rd for a check the welfare. Officers located
the male and female at a local business. The female had felony warrants for her arrest. The male was
released.
FOUND PROPERTY — 1XXX Wagon Wheel Trail 8/23/2017, 0931 HOURS
Officers responded to Rogers Lake Park on the report of drug paraphernalia in the grass at the skate park.
Officers discovered that it was a hookah and it was logged into property for safe keeping.
