Aug 11, 2017 Dog Ordinance Requirements Under the Mendota Heights City Ordinance regarding the keeping and licensing of dogs, owners need to be aware of the following requirements: *Dogs over 16 weeks of age must be licensed and have current vaccinations (city license & vaccination tags must be securely fastened to the dog’s collar). *Dogs are prohibited from running at large (pets should be leashed and under the direct control of a responsible person). *Dog owners need to be responsible for cleaning up after their pets. *Continuing or excessive barking, howling or whining is a violation of the City’s public nui- sance ordinance. *The maximum number of cats and dogs per home is limited to three upon any premises. Keeping your dog licensed can assist the police officer in locating the owner. The licensing period runs for the calendar year. To license your dog, bring a recent rabies vaccination certification, along with the owner’s name, address and phone, and the dog’s name, age, breed, gender and coloring, to City Hall. The cost for a license is $10 for a spayed or neu- tered dog and $15 for an unaltered dog. For more information, call City Hall at 651.452.1850. ****************************************************************************** Do You Know About Storm Water Pollutants? Pollutants (grass clippings, leaves, salt, pet waste, fertilizer, pesticides, and more) that go down the storm water drain don't go to a wastewater treatment facility. Much of our storm water is funneled, untreated, to the nearest waterbody. That could be the pond in your neigh- borhood, or the lake or wetland down the road. Grass clippings and leaves that go down the storm drain are pollution, too. Just one bushel of grass clippings mowed onto our roads will create about 50 pounds of oxygen-depleting algae in our waterbodies. As they say, "Only rain down the drain." ****************************************************************************** View Public Meetings or Agenda Packets Online City meetings are televised LIVE on Town Square Television’s Community Channel (Comcast Xfinity Channel 18 or CenturyLink Prism Channel 8418). Leash laws keep dogs safe (including yours) and protect the health and safety of people who are enjoying public spaces. No one is exempt from these laws.  Pay Attention: Put down your phone and be aware of your surroundings. Have both hands free to hold the leash and your eyes and ears open to what’s around you. It’s safer and more fun for you and your dogs!  Ask Permission Before Approaching: If you see a dog that you, your kids, or your dog would like to meet, stop moving and ask, “Is your dog friendly?” or “Can my dog say hi?” Never assume it’s ok to greet an unfamiliar dog.  Respect The Response: Give others the time and physical space to respond. Don’t force the interaction. If the answer is “No”, please don’t be offended. It’s not personal.  Continue On: If a dog owner moves to the side so that you can pass, do not let your dog approach them. Please shorten your leash and continue walking. Many dogs are not comfortable meeting strange dogs while on leash.  Do Not Give Chase: Do not allow your dogs to chase people or dogs. Always have full control of your dogs, even on your own property, and respect the personal boundaries of others.  Lock Flexi Leashes: If you walk your dog on a retractable leash, please retract and lock your leash when others are nearby. This allows people and dogs to pass by without engaging with your dog. This applies to indoor spaces as well, such as the vet’s office and pet stores.  Please Be Kind: These guidelines may be frustrating at times, but please refrain from arguing and name calling. One day due to illness, trauma, or other circumstances, you too may find yourself the loving owner of a dog in a need of space.  The Rules Apply To Us All: Dog lovers and those with friendly dogs often think they are the exceptions to these rules. No matter how good your intentions, the rules still apply. Together we can create safe, respectful, compassionate communities for everyone to enjoy. 2 THEFT — 8XX Park Place 8/3/2107, 1320 HOURS Spoke with reporting party via phone regarding a theft of package from outside their residence on the 800 block of Park Place Dr. No suspects at this time.
