May 12, 2017 Victoria Road Boulevard Wondering what happened? A prescribed burn was safely done by professionals on the native planting along Victoria Road, north of Marie Avenue. Prescribed burning is used for a variety of reasons. One of the most notable bene- fits of contained burning is to maintain the health of an existing natural area containing native plants. A contained burn helps manage weeds and other growth and thus helps to reduce the risk of wild- fires, but it also can help restore nutrients and help lead to more desirable plant growth in the future. Look for new growth coming soon and new native plants to emerge this spring, summer, and fall! Thank you for protecting our pollinators by staying off of this planting, but please enjoy the beauty of the native flowers(forbs) and grasses as you walk, jog, bike, or drive by this native habitat. Mendota Heights is continuing to implement their pollinator activities for a more sustainable space for us and pollinators.
