WHEREAS, we enjoy great freedoms of our country and our community, and we are mindful of
our obligation to pass along to our children the values that sustain our liberty and our democracy;
and,
WHEREAS, on Education and Sharing Day, we reaffirm our commitment to teach young people
the lessons they need to preserve and strengthen our Nation and our City, and to reach as far as their
vision and character can take them; and,
WHEREAS, Education and Sharing Day honors the memory of Rabbi Menachem Mendel
Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who established education and outreach centers that offer
social services and humanitarian aid around the world; and
WHEREAS, commemorating his life and legacy teaches the next generation that a single life of
conscience and purpose can touch and lift up many lives, and that by helping to heal a broken heart,
surrounding a friend with love, feeding the hungry, or providing shelter for the homeless, we can
change America and Mendota Heights for the better, with one heart, one soul, and one conscience
at a time; and
WHEREAS, the Rebbe taught that education should not be limited to the acquisition of knowledge
and preparation for a career, but also for character building, with emphasis on the universal moral
and ethical values that are the basis of any peaceful civilized society; and
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States has established "Education and Sharing Day, USA"
as an annual national day to communicate the Rebbe's achievements, and the lessons and the vision
which he set forth, which are relevant to all of us today.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, NEIL GARLOCK, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF MENDOTA
HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA, do hereby proclaim April 7, 2017, as
Education and Sharing Day in Mendota Heights
FURTHERMORE, I call upon all residents of Mendota Heights to dedicate their time and talents
to help raise the next generations to grow into caring and responsible adults.
