2007-12-14 Friday NewsThe Friday News December 14, 2007 SEXUAL HARASSMENT TRAINING On Tuesday of this week, trainers from the League of Minnesota Cities came out to City Hall to conduct a half day of training on Sexual Harassment. Supervisors had to go through an extended version. Hopefully we all learned a little about the topic and how to recognize and deal with it, should it occur. ICE SKATING RINKS The ice skating rinks will officially be opened this Friday, however, people have been skating on them already. This is the earliest that our rinks have ever been open for use (according to Park’s Department supervisor Terry Blum’s memory). ROBINS AT CITY HALL City Hall has been the site selected by a flock of robins to spend the winter. All week long robins have been roosting in the trees north of City Hall, and eating the berries off the trees in the front. (We have noticed a few of them who have “over served” themselves and fly into our windows in a drunken stupor). INDUSTRIAL PARK UPDATE George Burkards attended a planning meeting this week, and as a part of the discussion, he provided staff an update on recent activities in the industrial park. United Properties is considering purchasing back the Mendota Heights Office Plaza which is located on Pilot Knob Road between Northland Drive and Mendota Heights Road, and is currently owned by the Teacher’s Retirement System of Illinois. They are also selling some land to the ARRT – the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, who are looking to expand their national headquarters. ARRT was considering moving out of Mendota Heights, and UP is extremely happy to keep them in the community. George also mentioned that UP is looking at signage throughout the industrial park – the existing signs are 20+ years old. They are in need of maintenance, but could also be brought more up-to- date. UP is just beginning the process, but are looking forward to bringing forward a plan that will improve the look of the entire park.
