2007-11-30 Friday NewsThe Friday News November 30, 2007 TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY Don’t forget that this Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is the second Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Village. Last year’s event was a lot of fun and well attended, despite some bitter cold. The Mayor will flip the switch to light up the tree at 5:30. There will also be lots of other activities too such as: free hayride on a horse-pulled wagon, free hot apple cider, a visit from Santa, Holiday Choral music by the Visitation Choir, roasting chestnuts, $1 hot dogs and holiday specials in the stores. The event was carefully scheduled to coincide with the season’s first significant snowfall, which should make the event even more picturesque. See you there. TRANSIT PLANNING At the Dakota County Administrator/Manager’s meeting this morning, Dakota County staff provided an overview of the Draft Dakota County Transit Plan. The plan is wide-ranging, including an inventory of existing transit offerings, a study of transit opportunities and a three- part action plan. Considering the growth and changing demographics of our County, providing transit options is becoming more and more important. Fortunately, our County has some excellent resources, and progress is already underway. We can expect to hear more about this issue, including opportunities to participate in the planning process as the County starts to implement the plan. The plan should be available for public review and comment on the County’s Website (www.dakotacounty.us) soon. OVERDUE CLEANING For some time now, Kathy Swanson has been working to clean up our old files. City Hall has been bursting at the seams for document storage, as we have been hanging on to extra documents which are not a part of our Records Retention Schedule (a listing of official public documents). Kathy’s hard work has had a significant impact on our general files and storage areas. The end result makes important documents easier to locate, and serves to prepare the city for electronic imaging of records.
