CITY HALL VERY QUIET
City Hall was very quiet this week with Jim on vacation and Jake busy with Pan Flu and a fishing trip. With the loss
of Jim and Jakes to fill the Friday News with information, Sue provided a poem to amuse you.
Jim is gone on vacation
He took a trip across the nation
He rode the incline on Pike's Peak
And wildlife he did seek.
On the ride he ran into snow
That's typical weather in Colorado.
It's been very quiet at City Hall
Not many meetings and many a call
Sue is scraping the barrel for Friday News

This Sunday is Fathers Day so don't forget to treat your husbands and fathers to a day of
"anything they want to do". Maybe a game of golf or even a little fishing.

Public Works
The Parks Crew cleaned Mendakota Park around the building and cleaned up
rec rock off the cement area. They worked the USSSA tournament. The
irrigation systems at Mendakota Park and Kensington Park were tested. The
door handle on the concession stand at Mendakota Park was repaired after
vandalism. A downed oak tree was cut up and cleaned up at Friendly Hills
Park. Mulch was put down around newly planted trees.
Rich sprayed round up (total weed killer) in the right-of-ways for the Street
Crew and around fence lines for the Parks Crew. He cleaned sanitary sewer
lines on Copperfield Drive, Fieldstone Drive, Stone Road, High Pointe Road,
Watersedge Terrace, Pond View Drive, Pond View Court and Fieldstone Court.
The Street Crew patched potholes on Wagon Wheel Trail, Eagle Ridge Drive,
Downing Street, Brompton Court and Highway 13, Kay Avenue and Walsh
Lane. McPhillips was called in to sweep up debris after a vehicle fire on Laura
Court. Gartzke Construction did major catch basin repair on Boardwalk and
Park Placef Hiawatha and Garden Lane,. and Victoria Road south of Highway 1
George helped the Parks Crew with the bobcat and grapple bucket to pick up
downed tree. I
Sue met with Lynn Clarkowski, the new MnDOT area manager for the south
metro area. We discussed local highway issues. Lynn also provided contact
information for MnDOT's landscape partnership program. Sue will look into a
potential landscaping project along TH 110.
A preconstruction meeting was held for the Somerset Rain Garden Project.
The concrete and paving work is finished at the Mendota Heights Road/Pilot
Knob Road traffic signal project.

Cops on Top 06-07-07 0600 to 06-09-07 1800 hours
Officer Jennifer Fordham (MHPD) and Officer Christina Micek
(WSPPD) sat on the roof of Rainbow Foods in West Saint Paul last
weekend. Between the two they raised nearly $5000 for Special
Olympics. The totals are pending for on-line and in-store contributions.
The Officers donated their time to sit on the roof in the hot sun for 60
hours total to raise money for a great cause. Both officers were WCCO

Ordinance Violation 06-08-07 0928 hours
Officer Brian Convery stopped and advised a resident it was not legal
to park their car on the boulevard with for sale signs on it. They moved
the car without incident.
Neighbor Dispute 06-08-07 1702 hours
Party came to MHPD to report that his neighbor built an illegal fence in
violation of the City code. The fence issue was referred to Code
Enforcement. Officer Steve Meyer listened to the other problems the
man was having with his neighbor. Advice provided.
Medical 06-08-07 1929 hours
The Communications Center received a call of a man on the trail
having medical problems. Officer Rosse located the man behind Axel's
on the trail. The man refused help. He was transported by his wife.
Damage to Property / Neighbor Dispute 06-09-07 1001 hours
Reporting party noticed that the side of their house had been sprayed
with a gooey substance and then had seal coating rocks thrown against
it until they stuck. The neighbor has an ongoing dispute with the next
door neighbor and suspects it occurred just before the weather turned
bad. No one was seen causing the damage. Neighbors knew nothing
but thought they heard the dogs barking on the 7th around 0200 hours.
School is out! 06-09-07 1403 hours
Officer Brian Convery received a call of one vehicle loaded up with

young people driving carelessly in the park at Rogers Lake. While enroute, dispatch
advised MHPD a vehicle was driving on the grass at Rogers Lake Park. Officer Peterson
took a report from the reporting party while Officer Convery located the vehicle and spoke to
the driver who admitted to driving in circles at the park. Other passengers in the vehicle also
admitted to driving the same vehicle that evening in grassy areas and driving in
circles. Tracks indicated they were driving at a high rate of speed and the young people
admitted their driving was dangerous. Citations were issued for Careless Driving.
Speed / DAS / Warrant 06-09-07 2129 hours
While on patrol Officer Eric Petersen clocked an SUV traveling 55 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The vehicle was stopped a short time later. When the driver was asked for his license he
volunteered that he didn't have one, it was suspended. An in -squad computer check
confirmed his driving status and showed an active warrant for the driver. He was arrested,
the car was impounded by Southeast Towing and the driver was jailed.
Theft 06-11-07 0857 hours
Gas station employee called to report that the day before an elderly man drove off without
paying for $30.78 worth of gas. The employee felt the man had simply forgotten but when he
did not return to pay he became concerned. The employee did write down the vehicle
license number. A quick computer check put Officer Bobby Lambert in touch with the
registered owner of the car. He reported that he had paid using his card at the pump but did
quickly add that it never provided a receipt. The man returned and paid the outstanding bill.
Criminal Damage / REWARD PAID OUT 06-12-07 0830 hours
Officer Eric Petersen spotted some fresh "tagging" on park property. After contacting the
parks department to clean up the fresh paint, he spoke with Officer Jen Fordham who had
just spoken with one of the Assistant Principals about the reward posters seeking information
on the spray painters. Officers Petersen and Fordham began working through the list of
suspects and after several interviews, 90% of the spray paint vandalism for the past two
months was accounted for. The Mendota Heights Community Criminal Apprehension Fund
was contacted and payment of the reward was arranged. The juvenile suspects were
referred to the County Attorney's Office for charging.
Miscellaneous 06-13-07 0537 hours
Caller wanted to see an officer about wasted natural resources. Officer Jeff VonFeldt arrived
on scene and spoke with the upset homeowner. Apparently someone turned on his hose
during the night and thus much water was wasted.
AOA MHFD 06-13-07 1044 hours
Sergeant Neil Garlock assisted the fire department with traffic control while they put out a
fully engulfed work truck. Workers were apparently on a "smoke" break when one of them let
some embers get onto a couch in the back of the truck. The truck was a total loss.
Theft 06-13-07 1225 hours
Local business called to report employee theft. The employee has been terminated and the
majority of the missing money has been documented. The manager is concerned that they
will find more items / cash missing as they look further into the suspect. The documentation
was gathered up and prepared for investigations.
AOA 06-13-07 1913 hours
Officer Bobby Lambert assisted the WSPPD with a large fight in the park. When the officers
arrived on scene the kids scattered in multiple directions. Officer Lambert managed to detain
two of the suspects who were left at the WSPPD.
Burglary 06-14-07 1125 hours
Sergeant Neil Garlock along with Officers Convery, Meyers and Lambert responded to a
burglary that just occurred. Homeowners returned after a very short trip to find a man
coming out the front door of the house. The suspect fled N/B and then headed out onto the
golf course. With some great help from the public, Officers Convery and Lambert
apprehended the suspect and was identified by the victims. After being read Miranda he
confessed the crime. Transported to the Dakota County Jail to await charges.

Alcohol DURING MINNESOTA SEAT BELT ENFORCEMENT

Enforcement ST. PAUL — A two-week "Click It or Ticket" statewide enforcement campaign generated 9,324 seat
ARMER/911 belt citations. Last year in Minnesota, 373 vehicle occupants were killed in crashes and over half —

194 — were not buckled up. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) estimates half of those killed

Office of Minneapolis (193), and Ramsey County Sheriff's Office (181). In greater Minnesota, St. Cloud Police
Traffic Safety Department wrote 214 citations, followed by the police departments of Rochester (143), St. Peter (93),
State Fire Faribault (116), Lakes Area (100), and the Rock County Sheriff's Office (87).
Marshal and
Pipeline Safety
Minnesota's seat belt use rate is 83 percent. Belt use among young motorists — those overrepresented in
crashes — is 74 percent. Pick-up truck drivers have the lowest belt use among all vehicle types at 76
percent compliance. Minnesota's 2007 seat belt use observational survey will be conducted in August.
Ongoing enforcement focusing on speeding and impaired driver behavior is planned throughout the
state this summer — the deadliest period on Minnesota roads due to the combination of increased traffic
driving at faster speeds and a spike in impaired driving.
Safe & Sober is an enforcement and education program funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration and designed to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries.

r MN Passed away June 9, 2007. Preceded in death by his wife Ardyce, sisters Rita
Mae and Lois. Survived by daughter, Barb (Dana) Voshell of St. Paul; sons, John
z of Red Wing, Pat (Sue) of Apple Valley, Bob (Shirley) of Inver Grove Hghts;
Grandchildren, Dan, Nick, Alex, Erin, PJ, and Matthew. Growing up in Kilkenny
R� he loved to fish and hunt, a passion he carried through out his life. He also loved
basketball. Attending Waterville High School in 1936 they were District Champs,
and he was named "All District". He attended Montgomery High in 1937, where they went
undefeated in football; they were District Champs in basketball, and had a great baseball team. He
was again named "All District" in basketball. After high school he continued to play basketball for
company teams in the Minneapolis area. One trophy reads City League Champs 1940. In WWII, he
served in the Marine Corps, stationed in the South Pacific with MAG 23. He played on the MAG 34
basketball team and they won the SMS 9th MAW of 1946. When he returned from the war, he
learned to fly. He loved flying, and had many stories. A number of his friends became pilots. He was
married in 1954 to Ardyce Kremin and in 1957 they moved to Inver Grove, where they raised their
four children. Ardyce was a school teacher in the Rosemount District, and he worked for CENEX. He
was very active in local planning and politics. He helped with many political campaigns. Visitation
Tuesday 4-8 pm, at ENGLISH -MEEKER & KANDT FUNERAL HOME, 140 8th Ave. No. SSP, and
visitation one hour before service. Funeral service Wednesday 2:00 pm at GOOD SHEPHERD
