NORTH URBAN REGIONAL TRAIL Dakota County presented a new plan for the NURT trail, to the Parks Commission on Tuesday evening, which shows the location of the trail north of the frontage road rather than in between the frontage road and Hwy 110 as approved by City Council last summer. MnDOT informed the County and City that they would not issue a permit for the trail within the Hwy 110 right-of-way due to safety and storm water storage concerns. Fifteen homes adjacent to the frontage road could be impacted if the trail were to be constructed in this location. Sixteen residents from nine homes along the frontage road attended the meeting directing questions and expressing their concerns to the County representatives and Parks Commissioners. This issue will be on the July 19th City Council agenda. County staff indicated they will ask MnDOT to send a representative to join them at the Council meeting. The County is asking the City Council to approve construction of the trail along the north side of the frontage road, a location MnDOT has indicated they would approve.
