SPRING CLEAN-UP
This year’s spring cleanup was a great success; there were 275 residents (last year there were only
150) who utilized the opportunity last Saturday to get rid of that old mattress, couch or whatever. A
number of residents came back multiple times and were only counted once. It tried to rain a couple
of times, but that did not discourage anyone. Pat Hollister and his volunteers: Janet Bolger, Nancy
Bauer, Tom Knuth, Guy Kullander, Jessica Kullander, Ryan Ruzek, Kristen Schabacker, Judy
Wonick, Donn Anderson, Jeff Zachman, Becky Pentel, Mayor Huber, Council members Mary
Jeanne Schneeman and Ultan Duggan and I all worked hard on Saturday helping residents unload
their old treasures ( I’m sure everyone slept well Saturday night) .
SERGENT VICK’S FUNERAL
On Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. this week Chief Aschenbrenner, Sergeant Garlock, Sergeant Larrive,
Mario Reyes, Brian Convery, Eric Peterson, Jen Hurst and Jerry Murphy, all headed out to Sergeant
Vick ’s funera l in St. Paul at Crossroads Lutheran Church located across from Lake Phalen. The
funeral events started at noon and lasted until 2:00 p.m., after which the funeral procession traveled
through several cities where they were honored by Fire Departments and residents as they drove
through to the cemetery in North St. Paul. There were cops attending the funeral from Chicago,
Madison WI, Milwaukee, Ottawa Canada, Toronto Canada, and every municipality in Minnesota.
It was the biggest funeral the Chief said t hat he has ever seen. It was an awesome event for the
family of Sgt. Vick.
FISHING OPENER
This weekend is fishing opener, and Public Works Superintendent Tom Olund gets to spend it with
the Governor again. He left Thursday to go to Lake Vermillio n for a fun weekend of golfing and
fishing with the rich and famous. I hope Tom, and the rest of you who have to fish without the
Governor, have a great weekend.
