2004-01-23 Friday News The Friday News January 23, 2004 Employee Recognition – Service Awards A reception was held in the lobby of City Hall before this Tuesday’s City Council meeting to greet all the employees who have reached their 5, 10, 20 and 25 years of service to the City. A formal presentation of plaques to honor their service was then done by the Mayor at the meeting. Employees recognized this year were John Maczko, Fire Chief , 25 years, Ed Adrian and Keith Stein , have been firefighters together for 20 years, Mike Maczko , has been at Public Works for 20 years, Brett Blaeser , has been a firefighter for 10 years, Cathy Ransom has been the Police Receptionist/Clerk for 5 years and Kristen Schabacker who’s been the City’s accountant and Financial Director for 5 years. A big Thanks and Congratulations go out to all these employees for their years of dedicated service to Mendota Heights. Fish Rescue Cliff Timm was at the City Council meeting to discuss with Council his request to use snowmobiles to try to herd fish from North Rogers Lake to South Rogers Lake so that they could take advantage of the aerator that is currently operating at Rogers Lake Park. At the meeting, Cliff reported to the Council that it was too late this winter because the ice was already too thick on North Rogers Lake to get the fish through the new culvert under Wagon Wheel Trail that Cliff helped fund. He asked that the permission be granted for next winter and Council agreed. New Recycling Ordinance Also at Tuesday’s meeting the City Council adopted a new Ordinance that will allow for the City’s rubbish haulers to use the “one sort” system. Residents can now put all their recyclables into one single, larger bin. The hauler then takes these mixed recyclables to a facility where they are segregated. The main drawback to the new system, as I see it, is their container – it is green and yellow (Packer colors). People on the move Attached are two recent Pioneer Press articles about key people who work hard for Mendota Heights. Mike Mayer , our new prosecutor was contacted by the Governor’s office and asked to apply to be considered to be appointed as a judge. Mike interviewed and was selected as one of five finalists.
