The highly successful Police Citizens Academy is scheduled to begin classes again this
fall. Registration are already underway and 6 applications are in.
The first classes begin on Thursday, September 17th and then weekly until graduation
on November 5th. Last year's class was very well received so if you are interested in
going this year contact Sgt. Convery in PD. Do it early to be assured of a slot.

way. Officer Fleming put out e KOpS alert to states along the most likely routes. Thankfu|ly, the man
was soon found alive and well, and his judgement improved when calmer thoughts prevailed.
Domestic O7-11-O9O320hours
A811 call resulted in Officer Meyer responding to a residence on a domestic disturbance. When he
arrived, both were outside on the patio screaming at each other. The fight was over ex -girlfriends
calling the male's cell. (Hmm, sounds familiar ... ) The two had been drinking and gave Officer Meyer
very similar stories. Once Officer Meyer advised the woman that she was under arrest, the man
turned on him, first attempting to persuade him to un -arrest the girl friend, then becoming belligerent,
demanding the release of the suspect. Once at the DC ]ei| the suspect was given the opportunity to
provide a more detailed statement The new statement now included allegations of assault against
the boyfriend. Charges pending.
Fireworks 07-11-09 2349 hours
After firework exploded over Officer Jeff VonFe\dt'a squad he pulled over and parked. A moment
later he could see where the fireworks were being launched from. He then drove tothe launch site
with his lights off watching a few more volleys of fireworks. When he arrived he stepped out of his
squad and asked the woman lighting the fireworks where the rest ofthem would towhich she politely
responded "Right there are you f--- stupid?" The rest of the conversation was just as polite. The
fireworks were taken into evidence and the intoxicated fireworks launcher was taken to Detox.
Assault 07-12-09 2237 hours
Sergeant Brian Convery and Officer Peyton Fleming responded to e oa|| of party wandering around
calling for help. Upon arrival they found a young man who directed them to his mother who was lying
face down in the grass claiming neck injuries. Hea|theemt/\mbu|anoe was called. The victim refused
transport and was going to find her own ride to the hospital. Officers managed to piece together that
the afternoon BBQ ended in an argument once everyone was intoxicated. The suspect grabbed the
female victim by the throat threw her into the BBQ grill then bounced her off the brick wall a few times.
The suspect (.173 BAC on PBT) was interviewed after being read Miranda and provided e similar
story tothe one pieced together from the victim and witnesses. The victim did speak with Sgt Convery
while she was awaiting x-rays on her face. The suspect provided a statement after being read
Miranda. He admitted to the fight with slightly different circumstances. The argument was over who
was more oppressed and suffered the most hardships in society. Hewas transported to the Dakota
County Jail.
Not quite mkidnapping ... O7-15-O914OOhours
Officer Roose was asked to contact e mother who was reporting her "baby's daddy" had kidnapped
their child and had violated their agreement. Further investigation by Officer Romae revealed the
agreement was strictly verbal and that the mother had allowed the child to go with the father.
However, the father was upset to see his ex-girlfriend was "kickin' it" with someone he determined was
unaooepteb|e, and had threatened totake the child and leave town. The mother was advised to get
an order for protection; she did so and the next day, arrived at the police department to ensure service
of the OFP and to take custody of the child. Officer Rosse served the OFP, the child was safe and still
ethis father's and Officer Roosestood byduring the exchange. Officer cleared with nofurther action.

The Parks Crew repaired the men's bathroom faucet at Mendakota Park.
They prepared the fields and worked the tournament for AAU Baseball. The
fence lines and backstops were sprayed with total weed kill. The jump box
in the skate park at Rogers Lake was repaired by welding the square tubing.
The area around the playground at Victoria Highlands Park was leveled off
and seeded.
Rich cleaned the sanitary sewers on Chippewa Avenue,, Spring Street,,
Fremont Avenue, Winston Court, Diego Lane, Junction Lane, John Street
and Esther Lane. Catch basins that were filled with leaves were vacuumei
and cleaned on Chippewa Avenue and Decorah Lane.
The Streets Crew cleaned out the ditch line on Highway • vandalized
stop sign was replaced on at Vandal Street. A missing stop sign was
replaced on Ashley Lane and Norma Lane. A speed sign was reinstalled on
Evergreen Knoll. Street patching was done on Marie Avenue from Lexington
to Delaware Avenue. There was a hold in a storm pipe,, which caused the
street to cave in on Chippewa Avenue, Rich helped lamp the storm pipe to
see where the broken pipe is.
John and Ryan met with representitives from Mn/Dot regarding street turn
backs. Currently Victoria Curve, Center Pointe Curve, Dakota Drive and
Carmen Lane are in state right of way. These streets and right of way
should become city owned by the end of 2009.
John and Ryan met with Bonestroo regarding the intersection improvements
on Hwy 55 and Mendota Heights Road. The project has been delayed until
2111. :• •• will also be trying to minimize the scale of the project.
