2003-07-11 Friday News The Friday News July 11, 2003 MAC Commissioner Bert McKasy Speaks to ARC On Wednesday night, the Airport Relations Commission met with Metropolitan Airports Commission Bert McKasy. The Commission identified nine topics for discussion: Non simultaneous departures, distant versus close in departures, nighttime restrictions, “leakages out of the corridor,” MSP Noise Oversight Committee, Rogers Lake East Airport Noise Reduction Committee, strict adherence to the EIS, engine run up enclosures and litigation by Northwest Airlines. Mendota Heights Police Receive Defibrillator Donation An anonymous citizen recently donated $2,400 for one Automatic External Defibrillator, and plans to help the department buy at least five other units. Chief Aschenbrener told the Southwest Review that the City averages 8-10 medical calls per week, and many of them are heart related. These units will be very beneficial to the Department as the Police are often the first to arrive on the scene of an emergency or accident. See the attached Southwest Review article “Mendota Heights Police Receive Defibrillator Donation.” MSP Noise Oversight Committee Holds First Meeting On June 26, the MSP Noise Oversight Committee (NOC) held its first meeting. Council member Jack Vitelli is the representative for Mendota Heights, with Council member Sandra Krebsbach serving as alternate. Each representative will serve a two year term, with the exception of the airport user and community at large representative who serve for one year. The community at large representative rotates responsibility of representation between the other at large communities and the at large airport user representative is selected annually by the MSP Airport and Airline Affairs Committee. At this time, Mr. John Spanjers, Mesaba Airlines, is the airport user at large representative. Mr. Tom Hansen, with the City of Burnsville is the community at large representative. Mr. Vern Wilcox, City of Bloomington was th elected co-chair for the NOC Committee. The next regular NOC meeting will be held on July 17 at 1:00 PM. In addition, there will be quarterly public input meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month of the quarter (January, April, July and October) at 7:00 PM. CDA Has A Busy Summer The Dakota County CDA is keeping busy this summer with four housing developments, including the Mendota Heights 60 unit senior facility in the Village at Mendota Heights, a senior housing project in Eagan and West St. Paul, and family town homes in Burnsville. The Senior building will include such amenities as a community room with kitchen, library, underground heated parking and on site caretaker. Rents for the senior housing developments range from $315 to $590 for a one bedroom unit and $470 to $745 for a two bedroom units. Current income limits for the senior housing program are $39,550 for a one-person household and $45,200 for a two-person household. Grand Opening of Mississippi River Visitor Center The National Park Service will be holding a reception to celebrate the grand opening of the Mississippi th River Visitor Center on Friday August 8 from 6:30-8:30 PM. Mendota Heights Population Estimate The Metropolitan Council recently notified the City of the population estimates for Mendota Heights. As of April 1, 2002, they estimate that the population is 11,600, with 4,258 households and 2.70 people per household. Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Canceled The July Parks and Recreation Commission meeting has been canceled for the month of July. The th Commission will meet again on August 12 its regularly scheduled date and time. Information on CriMNet I’m sure most of you have heard the term “CriMNet” recently on the news. The CriMNet pilot program began in February of this year and is already being considered a success. Users of the system now have access to the Minnesota Chiefs of police computer system (MJNO), the Statewide Supervisory System (jail and probation information), Court Web Access and the Minnesota County Attorney Practice System. I recently received the attached data sheet on CriMNet and its components. I found the information very helpful and informative and wanted to share it with you. Met Council Seeks Applicants for Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Commission (MPOSC) The Met Council is seeking applicants to fill the nine positions on the MPOSC. The Commission consists of a chair, who serves at large, and 8 citizen members representing geographic districts across the seven county metropolitan area. A copy of the news release for the vacancies, as well as a map of the districts can be found at www.metrocouncil.org/news/news_392.htm. After applications are received, they will be forwarded to the Met Council. Applicants will then be invited to appear for an interview at a public meeting conducted by a Met Council appointments committee. The final appointments are expected to be made by the Metropolitan Council in September. Interested individuals should conact the Secretary of State’s office at 651-297-5845 for an application, or visit their website at www.sos.state.mn.us.
