2015-05-19 Jerry Murphy Recognitionpage 40 Citp of A.enboto 30etgbt,5, f inne5ota Proclamation WHEREAS, Garold "Jerry" Murphy has provided service to the City of Mendota Heights for nearly forty-eight years in its Police Department; and WHEREAS, during that time, Jerry Murphy has given selflessly of his time as a volunteer, as a Police Reserve, and as a licensed part-time police officer; and WHEREAS, Jerry Murphy began working when the Mendota Heights Police Department had been organized for only five years, and has worked for, and with, every MHPD Chief during that time; and WHEREAS, Jerry Murphy has been integrally involved with countless community events, ranging from traffic control to Citizens Academy to neighborhood speed checks; and WHEREAS, Jerry Murphy made himself available twenty four hours a day by always carrying his police radio with him to allow for quick responses; and WHEREAS, in 2013 Jerry Murphy received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in recognition of contributing what was then in excess of 13,000 hours of volunteer service to the community; and WHEREAS, Jerry Murphy is fondly known in the MHPD for bringing doughnuts to share every Thursday since 1980; and WHEREAS, the City Council, staff, and Mendota Heights community wish to honor and recognize Jerry Murphy as a consummate volunteer and civic servant for Mendota Heights. NOW THEREFORE BE IT HEREBY PROCLAIMED that the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights declares Thursday, May 21, 2015 to be "Jerry Murphy Day" In the City of Mendota Heights, Minnesota.
