8,080 Motorists Ticketed for Not Wearing
Seat Belts on Minnesota Roads
Oct. 10 –26
Driving provides a sense of independence and freedom but doing so without a seat belt dampened the
experience for unbelted motorists in Minnesota during October’s grant‐funded “Click It or Ticket”
campaign.
Preliminary reports show law enforcement officers Ɵcketed 8,080 drivers and passengers statewide for
not wearing seat belts during the Oct. 10—26 extra enforcement effort.
Across Minnesota 333 law enforcement agencies reported the results. In addiƟon to the seat belt
Ɵckets, officers issued 217 child seat citaƟons. A similar enforcement campaign in October 2013 saw
8,297 seat belt citaƟons and 341 Ɵckets for child seat violaƟons.
Child Booster Seat Use on the Rise
While officers see child seat violaƟons every campaign, the rate of properly secured children in booster
seats in Minnesota is improving. The 2014 Child Passenger Restraint Survey revealed that 72.9 percent
of children were correctly secured in a booster seat compared to 64.1 percent in 2011.

posted in the 11/21/14 JTF and also on the police page website. The winners will receive Juice
& Donuts with an Officer for up to 7 guests! And, every entry we receive will be displayed in

Officers Steven Meyer and Todd Rosse were dispatched to a senior living complex on report of an elderly
gentleman who was acting violent towards the staff that day. Officers and staff determined that due to his
increasingly violent behavior he posed a threat to staff and other patients. Medics arrived and the male was
transported to the hospital for a hold.
Theft of Gas Saturday 14:55 hours
Officer Bobby Lambert responded to a theft of gas report from an employee at the gas station. The employee
reported that a male suspect pumped $40 worth of gas and told the staff he would be paying inside. He left
without paying. The store clerk was able to get a license plate number from the vehicle and Officer Lambert
followed up with a letter to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Officer Mike Shepard was dispatched to a residence on a report of a burglary that occurred some time in the
past week. The homeowner advised Officer Lambert that she noticed her the door and door frame from the
garage and back sliding glass door had been damaged. It appeared as though someone had used some type of
tool to pry open the door. The homeowner stated it did not appear that anything was missing. There are no
suspects in this case and no evidence to collect at the scene.
Juvenile Runaway/Mental Health S u n d a y 1 9 : 3 4 h o u r s
Officer Steve Meyer and Officer Nick Gorgos were responding to a report of a juvenile runaway when they
learned that the juvenile had just exited his mother’s moving vehicle. They found the juvenile who was
having suicidal thoughts. The juvenile was not physically injured but was transported by ambulance to the
hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Officer Bobby Lambert took a report on a theft of gasoline. The employee stated the suspect pumped $35.02
worth of gasoline and then left without paying. The store employee provided a MN license plate to Officer
Lambert which unfortunately came back as a stolen license plate. This case is pending follow-up with the St
Paul Police Department.
Threats/Stalking Tuesday 13:05 hours
Officer Nick Gorgos met with a property management company who received a letter with a threatening mes-
sage inside. The property manager stated they manage 110 associations and it could be related to one of
them. This case remains under investigation.

MHPD has a Medication Disposal Box in the lobby of the PD where Dakota
County residents can safely and anonymously dispose of their prescription drugs
and over‐the‐counter medication.
