Dates to Remember: Working Smoke Alarms This year’s theme was “ Save Lives—Test Yours Every Month!” October 11 Residents are reminded to test smoke alarms Fire Prevention Open House 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. using the test button. Replace all smoke alarms every 10 years or if they don’t respond properly when tested. October 14 Parks Commission 6:30 p.m. The Mendota Heights Fire Department will October 21 wrap up this week with their annual Fire City Council 7:00 p.m. October Prevention Open House this Saturday, 11, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. October 28 Planning Commission 7:00 p.m. Mendota Heights Par 3 October 31 As the season changes, the Par 3 will be open Halloween Bonfire 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends, weather permitting. He helped the Parks Crew with mowing at the fire hall. Bids were collected for the valve replacement at the main lift station. Root X was applied to the sanitary sewer lines on Lexington Avenue and Marie Avenue. The Parks Crew continues to aerate the parks. The soccer fields were striped. A broken lock was repaired at Mendakota Park. A truck box was installed on the truck. The herbicide sprayer was removed, cleaned and put away for the season. Grass was cut. The Streets Crew hauled gravel to Wesley for the project being done there. Dirt was hauled from Wagon Wheel Trail. Barricades and flashers were gathered for catch basin repairs. They attended the annual Fall Maintenance Expo in St. Cloud. Engineering City Projects (construction year) Highway 13 Trail Connection (2014) Saint Paul Regional Water Service is working with the contractor to schedule the lowering of a water main line. The contractor is ready to start immediately after the water main correction. Completion is expected in October. Victoria Road Reconstruction & Rolling Green Neighborhood Rehabilitation (2014/2015) Caren Road at Victoria is closed for the duration of the project. The Final lift of asphalt will be installed later this year on Victoria, and trail work will be completed next week. The assessment hearing was held on October 7, 2014. Public meetings on the second phase of the project are expected in November/December of this year. Wentworth Avenue & Pilot Knob Road Trail Rehabilitation Projects (2014) The Pilot Knob Trail pavement has been replaced. Landscape work will take place within the next week or two. The Wentworth Trail rehabilitation is underway. A fire hydrant has been relocated as part of this project. Concrete pedestrian ramps will be installed next week. Marie Avenue/I-35E Erosion Repairs (2014) Staff has been working with MnDOT on a project to repair erosion that has taken place in the northeast quadrant of the Marie Avenue and I-35E intersection. Construction is underway, and should last 3-4 weeks. No detours are expected during this project, but the north shoulder of Marie Avenue may be periodically closed during the project, and there will be construction traffic crossing Marie Avenue during the project. County Projects North Urban Regional Trail Greenway Realignment (2014/2015) Dakota County section along Warrior Drive and Marie Avenue on Henry Sibley High School property. Parking on the east side of Warrior Drive has been prohibited ndst during construction (approximately September 2 through October 31). Parking on the west side of Warrior Drive remains prohibited per City Code. The contractor has removed the old trail segments and has begun grading for the new trail location. State Projects Highway 149 (Dodd Road) Reconstruction (I-494 to Highway 55 Eagan) This project is underway, and will reconstruct Dodd Road from the I-494 Interchange to Highway 55 in Eagan. He observed a vehicle going 81 MPH in a designated 55 MPH zone. As the vehicle passed Officer GorgosÓ squad car it gave no indication of slowing down. Officer Gorgos pulled the vehicle over and found the driver plus six other adults in the vehicle. The driver indicated he knew why he was stopped. Officer Gorgos issued a citation the driver who stated he was going home to tell his mother about the incident. DWIÏAssist Sunday 00:55 hours Officer Mike Shepard was just clearing a traffic stop assist when he observed a vehicle driving towards him going the wrong way on a I-494 traffic ramp. Officer Shepard stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver who was very apologetic and explained she was unfamiliar with the area and did not realize she was going the wrong way. Officer Shepard detected alcohol and asked her how much she had to drink. She denied having anything to drink. Officer Shepard learned the driverÓs driving privileges had been suspended. MN State Trooper Hathaway assisted Officer Shepard in administering field sobriety tests and ultimately arresting the driver for DWI. Gas Drive-Off Sunday 05:47 hours Officer Nick Gorgos responded to a gas station on report of a gasoline drive-off. The overnight employee stat- ed that a white male parked at the gas pump and requested to pay inside after he pumping the gas. The at- tendant stated he would have to move to a different pump so the employee would be able to see his license plate. The male complied, pumped the fuel and then drove off without paying. The license plate registers to a company in Wisconsin with no vehicle description. This case remains under investigation. Missing Person Sunday 18:40 hours Officer Peyton Fleming along with assistance from Officers Bobby Lambert, Nicholas Gorgos, and Tanner Spicer responded to a residence where the son said his father had left the residence after an argument and sent a text message that indicated he may harm himself. The father was eventually located unharmed at a local hotel The father was transported by paramedics to a hospital for a mental health hold. Theft Tuesday 12:09 hours Officer Robin Nelson was dispatched for a theft of an iPhone. The victim stated that he was at a bar the night before sitting at a table with friends who moved to a different table while he had left to use the restroom. When he returned his new cell phone was gone. After establishing that none of his friends had picked up his phone and no one had turned in a phone to the bar he reported the theft to police.
