Upon arrival he was met by several onlookers who examining the significant damage to a covered driveway overhang caused by a UÎHaul. One of them stated the driver had gone inside the apartment building. The driver was located and when asked about the damage, stated he became stuck under the covered area, backed out and then apparently decided to just go back inside the apartment building. Weapons Tuesday 19:28 hours Officers Peyton Fleming and Michael Shepard were dispatched to a report of a drive-by shooting that had oc- curred. In meeting with the uninjured victims, a driver and passenger, stated they were shot at in the area of Mendota Heights Road and Hwy 55. Fleming observed a hole where one round had entered the front of the rear passenger side door and another that had entered further back on the passenger side door and exited out the rear passenger door on the drivers side. Under investigation. DAR/Speed/No Ins Saturday 04:34 hours While on routine patrol, Officer Steve Meyer observed a vehicle at a high rate of speed. Meyer conducted a traffic stop and the driver, though identified by his MN DL, stated his license was revoked. The driver provided insurance info from the previous owner; upon verifying if it was current, Meyer found the insurance was not in effect. The driverÓs vehicle was towed and driver was cited for DAR/Speed/No Ins. Theft from Vehicle Monday 12:12 hours Officer Bobby Lambert spoke to the victim of a theft via telephone. In speaking with her she notified him that sometime late Saturday evening her family van had been broken into. Her sonÓs Nintendo DS and her husbandÓs wallet containing his DL, credit cards and cash were stolen. No suspect information. Theft of Gas Tuesday 11:44 hours Officer Bobby Lambert responded to a local gas station on a report of a theft of gas. In speaking with the em- ployee, he stated a blue colored Ford Explorer pumped $48.50 work of gas and left without paying. The em- ployee provided a detailed vehicle description as well as a suspect description. A letter was mailed to the regis- tered owner of the vehicle. Case pending. Located Stolen Property Wednesday 1318 hours A resident purchased an iPod via eBay and upon activating the phone, received a message stating the phone was stolen, police would be contacted and access was not allowed. They contacted eBay, who requested she call the police. Officer Larrive responded, took custody of the device and advised the ÐownerÑ of the phone that he was now in custody of the property and requested a call back; no return call back yet. Pending. Damage to Property Thursday 0730 hours Officer Jenny Fordham responded to a report of property damage. The owners had previously complained about a suspicious vehicle, persons and activities. When the vehicle ultimately received a citation, the report- ing party came out the next day to find their property had been egged and felt it was retaliation. Suspect in- formation has been provided; case pending. Damage to Property Thursday 0730 hours Officer Fordham responded to a business to take a report of property damage to a sprinkler head that ulti- mately caused some water damage to the building, and may have occurred via a soccer ball. Case pending. Ў The Front Row Dave Bellows, Sheriff Volume 10, Week 6 June 30, through Tim Leslie, Chief Deputy July 6, 2014 A Busy 4th of July Weekendƒ Featuring Sheriffs Deputies responded to a call of a three-year-old girl in Vermillion Township who had Sworn Operations and Detention fallen into a bonfire on the 4th of July. The little girl sustained second and third Services Deputies: degree burns and was taken by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. She was later listed in stable condition. Responding from the DCSO were Deputies Mike Commanders Vikesland and Dan Hoover and Sergeant Jeff Leopold. John Grant The DCSO assisted the Washington County Sheriffs Office on the report of a possible Dan Scheuermann drowningŽ on the St. Croix River. The man was swimming with his family when he Captains was last seen. After an exhaustive search of the area by Washington County and Dan Bianconi Pat Enderlein other agencies, the mans body was later recovered approximately 25 yards from the Joe Leko shore line. Sergeant Jim Iliff and Park Ranger Josh Schauer assisted with the Jim Rogers search. Sergeants Deputies also assisted at a fatal crash in Cannon Falls. A Minnesota Trooper Jennifer Cho responding to an accident with injuries collided with a car. Two people in the car Scott Durdall were killed and the trooper was transported by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in Jim Gabriel Booker Hodges IV St. Paul. Special Duty Deputy Matt Regis and DeputyTim Gonder assisted at Jim Iliff the scene. Bruce Kammen Jeff Leopold A driving complaint resulted in the arrest of a female for Driving While Impaired and Chris Melton a male for Disorderly Conduct. The Dakota Communications Center received multiple Tim Samuelson calls of a driver all over the roadŽ on 316 near Hastings. The vehicle pulled into a Rick Schroeder Rob Shingledecker local business and the woman ran from the car into the business. An employee Dawanna Witt intervened and was rewarded with the male spitting in his face. Both were taken into custody. Responding from the DCSO were Sergeant Scott Durdall and Special Duty Deputies Chris Hamblin and Ryan Holmquist. Chris did a routine license check on the car, which revealed it Michael Vai was a reported stolen out of St. Paul. After requesting assistance, Chris, along with Dmitriy Vecherkov Mike Vikesland Special Duty Deputy Matt Regis and Deputies Ryan Holmquist, Jen Lenarz, Dan Vujovich and Matt Lohmann stopped the car and arrested the driver, who admitted to stealing Bob Wegner the vehicle. Nice job by Chris and all. Tony Welin Boy, Was That a Wrong Number: Recently, Chief Deputy Tim Leslie received a call from an individual purporting to be with the Internal Revenue Service. The caller identified himself as Agent Shaun White, Badge Number 7656, of the IRS and said Tim had fraudulently filled out his Questions? Comments? taxes, making him subject to criminal penalties. Tim was advised if he did not Please contact the cooperate with the callers instructions his name would be forwarded to the County Dakota County Sheriff and his employer. In Tims case, this is one and the same. The call was a Sheriffs Office at scam in an attempt to extort money. Tim learned from a friend at the IRS that over 651.438.4700 or any of the following by 60,000 calls of this nature have been received and people have paid money thinking email: they were in trouble. Chief Deputy Leslie cautions anyone receiving a call to check it out first. Dont be pressured into sending money, call and verify first. Culvert repair work was done in Valley Park. Irrigation repair was done at Kensington and Mendakota Parks. Grass was mowed. The tennis courts were cleaned up at Valley Park. The hockey rink boards were removed at Marie Park. The Streets Crew cleaned up the dump. They hauled trees away. Blacktopping was done. The Utilities Crew checked the lift stations daily. The sanitary sewer lines were cleaned on Glen Toro Road. Cracks were sprayed on the pedways with total weed kill. The backstops, playgrounds and fence lines were also sprayed with total weed kill. A sanitary sewer inspection was done at Southview Design’s new building on Commerce Drive. Both generators were exercised. They assisted the Parks Crew with the hockey board demolition at Marie Park. Engineering City Projects (construction year) Hunter Lane/Orchard Place Neighborhood Improvements (2013) – The project is considered substantially complete and the final lift of wear course asphalt, originally scheduled for installation in June, is now scheduled for th the week of July 14, depending on weather. Highway 13 Trail Connection (2014) – Construction is anticipated to begin in July. A water main will need to be lowered in conjunction with this project. Saint Paul Regional Water Service will lower the main as soon as they have a crew free to do the work. The contractor is ready to start immediately after the water main correction. Victoria Road Reconstruction & Rolling Green Neighborhood Rehabilitation (2014/2015) – The first (2014) phase of the project will reconstruct Victoria Road from Highway 13 in Lilydale to Marie Avenue and rehabilitate the Stratford/Walsh/ Rolling Green neighborhood. Construction on Victoria will begin on July 12th. Temporary water main will be installed over the next two weeks. Wentworth Avenue & Pilot Knob Road Trail Rehabilitation Projects (2014) – The trails on Wentworth (Wachtler to Dodd) and Pilot Knob Road (I-494 to Highway 13) are scheduled for rehabilitation this summer. The project was awarded with the Victoria Road/ Rolling Green Neighborhood project, and construction is expected to begin in late July. Preventative Maintenance (Crack Sealing & Sealcoating) Contract (2014) – Crack sealing is complete, and sealcoating will follow in July for designated neighborhoods. Those scheduled to receive a chip seal coat on their streets are Park Place, Highland Heights including Mayfield Heights Road, Copperfield, and North Ivy Falls. Additional neighborhoods are receiving crack sealing only. Homeowners are not assessed or billed for this work, and will have access to their properties during construction. Temporary (hourly) no parking areas will be posted on streets being seal coated. Marie Avenue/I-35E Erosion Repairs (2014) – Staff has been working with MnDOT on a project to repair erosion that has taken place in the northeast quadrant of the Marie Avenue and I-35E intersection. Authorization to bid the project has already been granted by City Council, and as soon as staff receives the final pieces of information form MnDOT the project will be advertised. Bid opening is expected 3 weeks after advertisement. Kensington Neighborhood Rehabilitation (2015) – City Council authorized staff to produce a Feasibility Report for the project. Once complete, Council will decide whether or not to proceed with the project design. The project is being developed at the request of the Kensington Homeowners Association. County Projects Delaware Avenue Resurfacing (2014) – Dakota County will be resurfacing Delaware Avenue from Highway 110 south to I-494. This project will not widen or alter the lane alignment of Delaware, but will provide a new asphalt driving surface and new striping. The 2-3 week construction project is expected to begin in late July. Lexington Crosswalk at Victoria (2014) – This project will install a center median in Lexington on the north side of the Victoria intersection and provide for a crosswalk to connect the trails on the east and west of Lexington. The left turn lane from southbound Lexington to eastbound Victoria will be removed. Construction is expected to begin during the first week of August. Lexington Avenue Sealcoating (2014) – Dakota County will be seal coating (chip seal) Lexington Avenue from Vail Drive to Mendota Heights road in July. This is a preventative maintenance measure to increase the life of the pavement that was put sown in 2012 as part of the mill and overlay project. State Projects Highway 13 Landslide (Sylvandale to Wachtler) – The landslide from the th June 19 rain storm has been largely cleaned up. MnDOT is working on a slope repair for the landslide area and has committed to working with adjoining property owners on coordinating slope repair and restoration. Highway 149 (Dodd Road) Reconstruction (I-494 to Highway 55 – Eagan) – This project is underway, and will reconstruct Dodd Road from the I-494 Interchange to Highway 55 in Eagan. Construction is expected to be substantially complete this summer. Detours will be posted as needed. I-35E Guardrail Installation (2014) – MnDOT will be installing new guardrails along I-35E between Highway 13 and the Marie Avenue bridge. A preconstruction meeting is scheduled for July 15, and construction is expected to begin on July th 21 st. Lane closures and traffic delays should be expected during off-peak travel times. Installation work is expected to last less than 2 weeks.
