Halloween Bonfire
Join us at the annual City Halloween bonfire on October 31 from 7-9PM. The event will be held
on the undeveloped portion of the Mendota Plaza Shopping Center property. The Volunteer Fire
Department will carry on the tradition and run this year's event. Hot dogs, soda and other
goodies are free and a ghostly good time is guaranteed. Residents of Mendota Heights are
allowed to deposit brush no larger than 4" in diameter as fuel for the fire. In the past, the City has
had problems with illegal dumping at the site, which costs the City a great deal of money. In
order to prevent the illegal dumping, the City will be limiting the hours of operation from 8am-
7pm from the 19th –29th of October. We will also be increasing the signage and limiting access
to the dumping site. Unauthorized dumping is a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $1,000.
2002 State of the Region – Wednesday, October 30, 9-10:30 am
You're invited to join Ted Mondale, Chair of the Metropolitan Council, for the 2002 State of the
Region. It's time to take a look back at the achievements of the last four years and a look forward
at the work to be done to prepare for the future. Announcements will include results of the
Livable Communities grant awards! If you are interested in attending, please RSVP by October
28, 2002, at 651-602-1844, as space is limited. The meeting will be held at the Minnesota
History Center, 345 West Kellogg Boulevard, St. Paul.
November 5th City Council Meeting
The next meeting of the City Council will be held on Election Day—Tuesday, November 5th.
Please note that the meeting will not begin until 8:00 PM, after the election polls have closed.
The City Council is required by state statute to canvass the returns of the City Election within
two days after the election. On Tuesday night, the City Council scheduled the Canvassing Board
meeting at 5:00 PM on the day following the election (Wednesday, November 6th).
Planning Commission Meeting October 22
On October 22, the Planning Commission considered five cases and the Critical Area Ordinance
revision. The Planning Commission recommended approval of three residential variances and
the PUD for the Saint Thomas hockey arena. The Planning Commission also made preliminary
comments on a concept plan for owner -occupied multi -family housing on the Garron/Acacia
sites. All five of these planning cases will be on the Council agenda for November 5. In
addition, the Planning Commission discussed the proposed Critical Area Ordinance revisions and
asked Planner Grittman to bring them back to the November meeting for further discussion.
Daylight Savings Time
