This week’s weather was nearly fatal for several unfortunate people. Exposure to the elements can quickly cause problems. With wind chills at ‐50 below zero, it only takes a few minutes to find yourself in trouble. Are you ready for cold weather? Is your car ready for –25⁰? Are you ready to be outside? A car kit can mean the difference between life and death if you end up in a ditch somewhere in a snow storm. Here are some tips: Keep your fuel topped off Make sure your tires are ready for winter travel Pay attention to the forecast Stay off the cruise control Allow extra stopping distance Don’t lock up your brakes if you are sliding, turn into a skid and accelerate slowly Use emergency flashers and fuel sparingly Pack a winter survival kit: food, candles, water, a blanket or sleeping bag, warm clothing, shovel, jumper cables, a bag of cat litter (for weight and traction), flashlight & flares.
