1979-07-31 Council minutes/// Page July 31, 1979 CITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA Minutes of the Special Meeting Held. Tuesday, July 31, 1979 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the special meeting of the City Council, City of Mendota Heights was held at 5:30 o'clock P.M. at the City Hall, 750 South Plaza Drive, Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Mayor Lockwood called the meeting to order at 5:30 o'clock P.M. The following members were present: Mayor Lockwood, Council members Hartmann, Losleben, Mertensotto and Witt. CASE NO. 79-22, OLSON VARIANCE Ayes: 5 Nays: 0 Mayor Lockwood stated that the purpose of the special meeting was to discuss an application for variance from Mr. Terry Olson for a sideyard setback variance of 4 feet on the northerly side of his lot. The Council acknowledged a memo and drawing from the Code Enforcement Officer explaining the variance request and pointing out that construction on a proposed addition which infringes on the setback has already commenced. Code Enforcement Officer Berg explained the site plan, and Mr. Olson explained the building plan. In response to Council questions, he stated that the exterior siding on the addition will be 8 inch lap siding, consistent with the exterior of the existing structure. He also stated that the roof line will be the same as the existing structure, but that the pitch on the porch roof will be lower than that on the addition and existing structure. It was noted by the Council that the existing structure is four feet from the northerly lot line on the 45 foot lot, there is a vacant lot between the Olson residence, and a hardship exists in that the construction has commenced and a permit had been issued. Mayor Lockwood stated that notices of the special meeting had been mailed to the adjoining property owners. He asked Mr. & Mrs. Roger Grawert, 1023 Delaware Avenue, who were present for the discussion, whether they had any objections to the proposed variance. Mr. Grawert stated that he had no objection to the proposed structure as shown on the building plan. After discussion, Mayor Lockwood moved that since there were no objections to the variance voiced, and based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission, a six foot sideyard setback variance on the northerly lot line at 1029 Delaware Avenue be granted to allow completion of construction of a proposed addition four feet from the northerly lot line, conditioned upon continuation of the existing siding and roof-line and subject to conformance with the plans submitted for Council review at this meeting. Councilman Hartmann seconded the motion. Page July 31, 1979 ADJOURN There being no further business to come before the Council, Councilman Hartmann moved that the meeting be adjourned.
