DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA
RESOLUTION 06-',5j7.
A RESOLUTION DENYING AN APPLICATION FOR A SIGN PERMIT
WHEREAS, TLC Sign Service has submitted a sign permit application on behalf of
SuperAmerica for the gas station located at 1200 Mendota Heights Road; and
WHEREAS, the proposed sign would include electronic digital numerals that could be
changed remotely; and
WHEREAS, signs listed in Zoning Ordinance Section 12 -1J -5 G are "Prohibited Signs ";
and
WHEREAS, the City Council voted on June 21, 2005 to deny an application for a zoning
ordinance amendment which would have allowed electronic signs; and
WHEREAS, the proposed sign constitutes a Prohibited Sign within the meaning of
Zoning Ordinance Section 12 -1J -5 G (3).
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Mendota Heights that the sign application for the SuperAmerica gas station located at
1200 Mendota Heights Road is hereby denied.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in support of the above denial, the Council hereby
reaffirms the following Findings of Fact which were adopted on June 21, 2005:
1. Mendota Heights is predominately a low density residential city. The Council finds that
digital signs conflict with and will reduce the low density residential character of the
comununity by providing a more retail /commercial appearance.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that sign permit application would have an adverse
impact on the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens of the con ununity and the
surrounding land, and would be in violation of the general intent and purpose of the Zoning
Ordinance.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights
this 18th day of July, 2006.
