Send Off for David
On Wednesday this week, city staff bid a
regretful farewell to City Administrator David
McKnight. In less than two years David had a
profound impact on the City of Mendota
Heights and will be missed by
everyone. David has the unique opportunity to
go home, having accepted the position of city
administrator in his hometown of
Farmington. Mendota Heights’ loss is
Farmington’s gain, but David promises that he
will not be a stranger and even said he would
have to come back to Mendota Heights
periodically to order a Gringo Burger off the
menu at Teresa’s Restaurant. We will miss
you David and good luck!

Dodd Road
Minnesota Department of Transportation
(MnDOT) completed an overlay of Highway
149/Dodd Road this week between Hilltop
Road and Mendota Heights Road. The work,
including striping was done very efficiently
resulting in a considerable improvement in
driving conditions.
Additional MnDOT plans include chip-sealing
north and south of the sections worked on this
week.
Several residents have inquired about the
scheduling of Dodd Road work while Delaware
Avenue is closed. Unfortunately, we do not
have input as to when the state will conduct
maintenance on their roadways. While the
disruption is inconvenient, the improvements to
Dodd Road are much needed.

Preliminary Budget
City council will consider setting the
preliminary budget at their regular meeting,
Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Through the
budget workshop, the council was able to
provide staff good feedback on the draft
budget, which will show little to no increase in
the levy for city property taxes.
Once the preliminary budget is set, the council
may opt to reduce the size of the budget, but
may not increase the budget from what is
approved in September.

Pilot Knob Parking
Our Historic Pilot Knob Site is getting a more
welcoming entrance this week as
subcontractors for Great River Greening install
a split rail fence and gravel parking area. This
project was budgeted for 2011 and is one more
step forward to implementing the management
plan for the site. The project should be
complete in the coming week.
Presidential Visit
Residents may have wondered why there
were so many marked (and unmarked)
squad cars around town on Tuesday
morning. After landing at MSP Airport,
President’s Obama’s motorcade travelled
down Highway 55 through Mendota
Heights. Several onlookers gathered at the
Acacia Blvd bridge over Highway 55.
Thank you to our police, police reserves
and public works staff who helped to make
sure this event was actually quite
uneventful.
