Thank You
This is my final edition of the Friday News
before I leave my position in Mendota Heights.
I wanted to thank each of you for the support
that you provided to me, especially when I
started my position. I want to especially thank
the City Council that hired me in 2009. Mayor
Huber and Councilmembers Vitelli, Duggan,
Krebsbach and Schneeman gave me a
chance to work in city government that I have
truly appreciated. Councilmembers Petschel
and Povolny have offered the same type of
support and I appreciate that as well. As most
of you know I am leaving my position to
become the city administrator in Farmington.
This is my hometown, a place where I have
served on the city council and a city that I still
call home today. The job will be challenging
but the personal and professional rewards that
it offers were too much to pass up. Mendota
Heights gave me a chance to work in city
government and bring in a new style of
leadership. The work that I have done here
was intended to make our organization a more
efficient and modern organization, and I think
we have succeeded in that aspect. To the
employees of the organization I say thank you
for the time we have spent as colleagues.
Thank you also goes out the members of our
three city commissions. The work you do is
very valuable and very much appreciated. I
wish each of you the best in the future and
remember I am not far away and our paths will
continue to cross. Thanks again and enjoy the
rest of the summer!

Human Resources Update
City staff members interviewed the three final
candidates for the Account Tech position that is
currently vacant in the Finance Department.
City staff will make a recommendation to the
city council on a final candidate in the very near
future. In addition, the recruitment process for
the city administrator position is proceeding as
planned. To date the city has received 11
applications for the position. The application
period for the position closes on Thursday,
August 25, 2011. Anyone interested in
applying can review the application information
online or get in touch with city staff. The city
hopes to have a new administrator in place by
December of this year. Thank you to everyone
involved in the recruitments that have occurred
this year. Our new team members have all
been great additions to the city.

Safety Camp
2011 marks the 20th year of Safety Camp, a
program geared towards school aged youth,
featuring three days of activities intended to
help youth keep themselves safe and make
good decisions.
Safety Camp is jointly run by the cities of
Mendota Heights, South Saint Paul and West
Saint Paul, staffed not only by recreation staff,
but also volunteers from fire and police
departments.
This year, Safety Camp was featured in a short
news story on KSTP. You can watch the brief
video by going to their website at
www.kstp.com, and entering “safety camp” into
their search tool.
Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers that
make this such a great experience for our
youth.
