A Sad Day in Mendota Heights
Charles Mertensotto Remembered
Former Mayor Charles Mertensotto passed
away peacefully on October 25, 2011. He was
survived by his loving wife, Arlean of 60 years,
two daughters, one son and five grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Navy and practiced law
on West 7th Street for over forty years. He
served on the city council for 14 years and as
mayor for 16 years. Mertensotto was an
integral part of developing the Mendota
Heights park system specifically the expansion
of the trails in addition to laying the groundwork
for the Village at Mendota Heights.
The wake will be held Friday, October 28, 2011
from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at O’Halloran and
Murphy Funeral Home on Snelling Avenue
and the funeral on Saturday, October 29, 2011
at 10:00 a.m. at The Assumption.
Please keep the Mertensotto family in your
thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
It is almost Miller Time……..
Council is expected to approve the
appointment of Justin Miller, whom
council unanimously voted to hire as its
next city administrator, at the November
1, 2011 council meeting next week.
The mayor and city council will formally
introduce Justin Miller at Tuesday’s
meeting.
Justin’s first day will be on December 28,
2011, following a 45-day notice given to
his current employer, the City of Falcon
Heights and time spent with family for the
holidays. Please give Justin a warm
welcome.

Department is seeking energetic seasonal part-
time warming house/ice rink attendants to
assist skaters at Mendota Heights’ outdoor ice

Administrative Staff Training
This week four of our city’s administrative and
support staff attended “Success in the Cities”
training for administrative professionals. The
series is a collaborative effort between
Mendota Heights, South St Paul, West St Paul
and Eagan.
The first session of four consisted of habits of
highly successful people, time management,
working with difficult customers and the four
personality styles. Feedback from staff who
attended was extremely positive.
