Suspicious Saturday 0523 hours
A 911 caller reported a female running down Highway 110 with a backpack and several
men in yellow SUV taxi were chasing her. The caller reported that a man jumped the
SUV and was now chasing the woman on foot down the street, the caller lost sight of
them in the darkness as the woman ran into the residential area. The dispatcher
attempted to get descriptions of the woman or the man; the caller said it was too dark
and were unable to see them clearly. Officer VonFeldt arrived moments later and
thoroughly checked the area but there was no one to be found.
Domestic Saturday 1651 hours
The DCC received a 911 call from an agitated male upset because his baby's mama
took his car keys. The two were yelling at each other in the parking lot as Officer Steve
Meyer arrived on the scene. Once they were calmed down Officer Meyer learned the
argument was actually moving, in a car, until the two decided to stop in Mendota
Heights to argue it out. The male was late getting out of work, resulting in the woman
having to stand in the parking lot for 15 minutes. The man decided it was safest to walk
to work and that ended problem.
Foot patrol Saturday 1831 hours
Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Community hosted their annual powwow at St. Peter's
Church over the weekend. Officer Meyer did a walk- through of the powwow several
times indicating everything was going wonderfully; the event went off without a hitch.
Recreational Fire Saturday 1950 Hrs.
Homeowner reported a house behind them was having a recreational fire with very
thick, noxious smoke. Officer Meyer arrived, spoke with the caller and quickly located
the fire. As he approached the fire, he observed the resident was actually in the process
of putting the fire out. They were very apologetic about the problem and did not want
any problems or an upset neighbor. No further calls.
Medical Saturday 2243 hours
The DCC received a call from an elderly woman reporting that she was getting ready for
bed and found her closet torn apart. She reported to the operator that she already
checked apartment and didn't believe anyone was there. Officer Peyton Fleming arrived
a short time later; after discussing the incident it was learned the caller from dementia.
Officer Fleming checked the doors and windows found no signs of forced entry. He
noted that there were valuables in plain sight but nothing had been disturbed. He made
a quick call to the caller's daughter but it did not raise any concerns with her. Security
tips provided; clear.
Found keys Sunday 1844 hours
Officer Todd Rosse had a set of car keys turned into him in the front lobby of the
Mendota Heights Police Department. Officer Rosse noted that keys had several of the
barcoded rewards cards attached to them; upon calling he found the Super America
card was never register, and both Petco and the Honda dealership were closed already.
The next call was to Petsmart. When Officer Rosse explained to the manager that hE
had a found set of keys, the employee informed him they would not give him the
information about who owned the car keys without a subpoena nor would they contact
the person. (Investigator Reyes was told a similar, non - helpful story the next day.) He
then headed to the area where the keys were reportedly found and he drove around
searching out Hondas in the area, hitting the panic button; no alarms are activated.
09/16/2011
Follow up calls have so far been unsuccessful. Keys held for safekeeping.
Fraud Tuesday 1339 hours
Officer John Larrive responded to a residence about a fraudulent check. Upon arrival he
spoke with the resident who advised him they had placed an ad to sell a table for $175.
When the check arrived it was made out for $1675.01 from a college in the state of
Maryland. Officer Larrive determined that the check came via FedEx and the originating
point of the check was in the state of California. The victim luckily was smart enough to
follow his gut instinct that this was fishy and didn't cash the check order or return any
cash to the party. Check placed in the property room. No suspects no follow -up.
Warrant / Marijuana Motor Vehicle Wednesday 2037 hours
While on patrol officer Denise Urmann ran a vehicle license plate on a vehicle passing
her in the other lane. A moment later the computer revealed the registered owner of the
car had an active warrant out of Hennepin County for Disorderly House. She turned the
squad around caught up with the vehicle and stopped it. As she approached the car, a
very strong odor of marijuana wafted out of the inside of the vehicle. As she looked
inside she could see flecks of green specks on the driver's pants and on the center
counsel was a glass jar containing marijuana. She requested to see the man's license
and wanted to know if he had been smoking marijuana recently, he replied no he had
not but he was intending to. She removed him from the vehicle; he was handcuffed,
patted down, the marijuana was removed from his person and from the front seat of the
car. He was allowed to post $50 bond with a court date Hennepin County; he also
received a citation for marijuana in a motor vehicle and he was then released.
Warrant Arrest Thursday 1113 hours
An in -squad computer check revealed the registered owner car in front of Officer John
Larrive had an active warrant out of Hennepin County and an active warrant out of
Dakota County. Upon stopping the vehicle it was determined the owner was the driver
and the driver did have active warrants out of the two counties. Officer Larrive collected
bail money, the court date was set and the driver was released.
OFP questions Friday 0434 hours
Officer Mike Shepard received an MDT message about an OFP violation he might have
made @ 0430 hours... really? Officer Shepard called the man and learned that he had
an order prohibiting him from stalking his wife. He advised Officer Shepard that he had
signed up to follow her Twitter account and Twitter was now in the process of notifying
her of that information. Meanwhile a location check was being done on the man's cell
phone as he was clearly violating the court order. The vehicle had been at a local bar
but was now moving. Richfield PD was notified to watch for the man. The man was
advised to quit stalking and he was in violation of the order. No further contact with
MHPD.

In Minnesota, one in seven drivers has a DWI on record. Last year, 29,918 motorists were arrested.
Marshal
Roeske stresses for Minnesotans to always plan for a safe ride — designate a sober driver, use a
cab /public transportation, or stay at the location of the celebration. He says families should let each
other know that they will be available to offer a safe ride home. Roeske adds motorists can help stop
impaired drivers by calling 911 when witnessing impaired driving behavior. Witnesses must be
prepared to provide location, license plate and observed dangerous behavior.
DWI enforcement is a component of the state's core traffic safety initiative, Toward Zero Deaths
(TZD). TZD focuses on the application of four strategic areas to reduce crashes — education,
enforcement, engineering and emergency trauma response. The goal of the program is 350 or fewer
deaths by the end of 2014. To -date, there have been 222 traffic deaths in Minnesota compared to 280 at
this time last year.
