A detour will route motorists along eastbound 1 -494, northbound Highway 61, westbound 1 -94 and back to the Capitol Interchange. Motorists can reach St. Paul, both directions of 1 -35E and 1 -94 from the Capitol Interchange. Other scheduled 1 -35E closures Northbound 1 -35E will be reduced to a single lane between Highway 13 and Highway 5/West Seventh Street at 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, one hour before this weekend's full closure begins. Southbound 1 -35E will be reduced to a single lane between Highway 5/West Seventh Street and Highway 13 from 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. The extended lane closures are needed to allow the new concrete adequate time to cure before it can carry traffic. Southbound 1 -35E is scheduled to close between Highway 13 and Highway 1 -494 from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26. Details outlining the detour will be made available by Wednesday, Sept. 21. Southbound 1 -35E is also scheduled to close between Interstate 494 and Lone Oak Road from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3. The hockey boards that were replaced were painted. They finished spraying the trails for weeds. The vandalized pole for the tennis net was repaired at Friendly Hills Park. Trees were trimmed along the trails at Marie Avenue and Lexington Avenue. The Utility Crew installed two new GFCI outlets, bolted down two drill presses and secured the ladders on the walls in the public works garage, as directed by the safety committee. "Pot" was sprayed with total weed killer that is growing in Valley Park, as directed by the police. The Street Crew hauled in class #5 for the alley between Hiawatha Avenue and Freemont, potholes and low spots were filled. Black dirt and grass seed was put down on View Lane and Butler Avenue. Engineering Wagon Wheel Trail Reconstruction - The sewer contractor is scheduled to be completed with the underground work on Monday(9 /19). Curb was installed west of 35E, Swan Ct, Rogers Ct, and Alice Lane will have the curb sections replaced starting on Tuesday(9 /20). Bituminous trail rehabilitation is scheduled to begin on Monday as well. The contractor has been making excellent progress. MnDOT Projects The following projects are under the management and supervision of MnDOT and are presented as information only. Contacts for each individual project are listed after the project update. I -35E Resurfacing - MnDOT began resurfacing I -35E on August 18th. The project is anticipated to last until November 1St. In addition to the pavement resurfacing, MnDOT will be installing new guardrails, improving drainage, and upgrading exit and entrance ramp signals. The project will be accomplished mainly at night and during off -peak (non -rush hour) traffic times. Lane closures are expected during off -peak traffic times. Officer Jerry Murphy Scott Patrick Scott Patrick began checking the area and eventually located two John Larrive men selling magazines. They were cited for the violation under the Bobby Lambert new door -to -door sales ordinance. Door -to -door sales are no longer Tanner Spicer Todd Rosse allowed /permits are no longer issued in Mendota Heights, but there Chad Willson are several exemptions to the ordinance that allow certain sales Steven Meyer VonFeldt Jeff calls (e.g. Comcast) and fundraisers (Scouts, non - profit groups). Peyton Fleming School Resource Officer Speed Friday 1839 hours Jennifer Fordham While on patrol, Officer Steve Meyer spotted a speeder traveling 60 miles an hour on Lexington Avenue. The car was pulled over Investigations Mario Reyes shortly after it was clocked and the driver was issued a ticket for Tanner Spicer speeding. As soon as he finished issuing that ticket, he immediately stopped another car and issued a second ticket for 60 Sergeants Neil Garlock in a 40 on Lexington Avenue. Brian Convery Eric Petersen Help Friday 2027 hours Officer Steve Meyer received a call from frantic parents about an Reserves Randy Pentel out -of- control 17- year -old. Every parent's worst nightmare: a 17- Jesse Mettner year -old who doesn't follow the family rules, takes the family car Jarrod Spicer and leaves. He listened what was going on and provided some Jim Knox Jeff Parker advice on how to handle the situation. The juvenile was not entered George Castillo as a runaway and the car was not entered as a stolen but the Chaplains parents were given the option to call back and have him entered John snider into the computer if it turned into a prolonged problem. Mom and Lynn Liberman Dad agreed, wayward child showed up hours later. Frances Colon Alberto Vargas Car vs. Deer Friday 2337 hours Butch Millett David Wick The caller reported he just hit a deer. The injured deer limped off into the darkness just before Officer Todd Rosse arrived on scene Chief Mike Aschenbrener and the car received minor damage; the deer was not found. 09/16/2011 Suspicious Saturday 0523 hours A 911 caller reported a female running down Highway 110 with a backpack and several men in yellow SUV taxi were chasing her. The caller reported that a man jumped the SUV and was now chasing the woman on foot down the street, the caller lost sight of them in the darkness as the woman ran into the residential area. The dispatcher attempted to get descriptions of the woman or the man; the caller said it was too dark and were unable to see them clearly. Officer VonFeldt arrived moments later and thoroughly checked the area but there was no one to be found. Domestic Saturday 1651 hours The DCC received a 911 call from an agitated male upset because his baby's mama took his car keys. The two were yelling at each other in the parking lot as Officer Steve Meyer arrived on the scene. Once they were calmed down Officer Meyer learned the argument was actually moving, in a car, until the two decided to stop in Mendota Heights to argue it out. The male was late getting out of work, resulting in the woman having to stand in the parking lot for 15 minutes. The man decided it was safest to walk to work and that ended problem. Foot patrol Saturday 1831 hours Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Community hosted their annual powwow at St. Peter's Church over the weekend. Officer Meyer did a walk- through of the powwow several times indicating everything was going wonderfully; the event went off without a hitch. Recreational Fire Saturday 1950 Hrs. Homeowner reported a house behind them was having a recreational fire with very thick, noxious smoke. Officer Meyer arrived, spoke with the caller and quickly located the fire. As he approached the fire, he observed the resident was actually in the process of putting the fire out. They were very apologetic about the problem and did not want any problems or an upset neighbor. No further calls. Medical Saturday 2243 hours The DCC received a call from an elderly woman reporting that she was getting ready for bed and found her closet torn apart. She reported to the operator that she already checked apartment and didn't believe anyone was there. Officer Peyton Fleming arrived a short time later; after discussing the incident it was learned the caller from dementia. Officer Fleming checked the doors and windows found no signs of forced entry. He noted that there were valuables in plain sight but nothing had been disturbed. He made a quick call to the caller's daughter but it did not raise any concerns with her. Security tips provided; clear. Found keys Sunday 1844 hours Officer Todd Rosse had a set of car keys turned into him in the front lobby of the Mendota Heights Police Department. Officer Rosse noted that keys had several of the barcoded rewards cards attached to them; upon calling he found the Super America card was never register, and both Petco and the Honda dealership were closed already. The next call was to Petsmart. When Officer Rosse explained to the manager that hE had a found set of keys, the employee informed him they would not give him the information about who owned the car keys without a subpoena nor would they contact the person. (Investigator Reyes was told a similar, non - helpful story the next day.) He then headed to the area where the keys were reportedly found and he drove around searching out Hondas in the area, hitting the panic button; no alarms are activated. 09/16/2011 Follow up calls have so far been unsuccessful. Keys held for safekeeping. Fraud Tuesday 1339 hours Officer John Larrive responded to a residence about a fraudulent check. Upon arrival he spoke with the resident who advised him they had placed an ad to sell a table for $175. When the check arrived it was made out for $1675.01 from a college in the state of Maryland. Officer Larrive determined that the check came via FedEx and the originating point of the check was in the state of California. The victim luckily was smart enough to follow his gut instinct that this was fishy and didn't cash the check order or return any cash to the party. Check placed in the property room. No suspects no follow -up. Warrant / Marijuana Motor Vehicle Wednesday 2037 hours While on patrol officer Denise Urmann ran a vehicle license plate on a vehicle passing her in the other lane. A moment later the computer revealed the registered owner of the car had an active warrant out of Hennepin County for Disorderly House. She turned the squad around caught up with the vehicle and stopped it. As she approached the car, a very strong odor of marijuana wafted out of the inside of the vehicle. As she looked inside she could see flecks of green specks on the driver's pants and on the center counsel was a glass jar containing marijuana. She requested to see the man's license and wanted to know if he had been smoking marijuana recently, he replied no he had not but he was intending to. She removed him from the vehicle; he was handcuffed, patted down, the marijuana was removed from his person and from the front seat of the car. He was allowed to post $50 bond with a court date Hennepin County; he also received a citation for marijuana in a motor vehicle and he was then released. Warrant Arrest Thursday 1113 hours An in -squad computer check revealed the registered owner car in front of Officer John Larrive had an active warrant out of Hennepin County and an active warrant out of Dakota County. Upon stopping the vehicle it was determined the owner was the driver and the driver did have active warrants out of the two counties. Officer Larrive collected bail money, the court date was set and the driver was released. OFP questions Friday 0434 hours Officer Mike Shepard received an MDT message about an OFP violation he might have made @ 0430 hours... really? Officer Shepard called the man and learned that he had an order prohibiting him from stalking his wife. He advised Officer Shepard that he had signed up to follow her Twitter account and Twitter was now in the process of notifying her of that information. Meanwhile a location check was being done on the man's cell phone as he was clearly violating the court order. The vehicle had been at a local bar but was now moving. Richfield PD was notified to watch for the man. The man was advised to quit stalking and he was in violation of the order. PAUL — An 18 -day statewide enhanced DWI enforcement effort, August 19— September 5, Bureau of resulted in the arrest of 1,787 motorists. Preliminary DWI arrest totals were reported to the Criminal Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety by 295 law enforcement agencies. Apprehension Driver Consequences for a DWI include loss of license for up to a year, up to $20,000 in legal costs, and Vehicle heightened insurance rates, and possible jail time. Last year, 29,918 motorists were arrested. Marshal Roeske stresses for Minnesotans to always plan for a safe ride — designate a sober driver, use a cab /public transportation, or stay at the location of the celebration. He says families should let each other know that they will be available to offer a safe ride home. Roeske adds motorists can help stop impaired drivers by calling 911 when witnessing impaired driving behavior. Witnesses must be prepared to provide location, license plate and observed dangerous behavior. DWI enforcement is a component of the state's core traffic safety initiative, Toward Zero Deaths (TZD). TZD focuses on the application of four strategic areas to reduce crashes — education, enforcement, engineering and emergency trauma response. The goal of the program is 350 or fewer deaths by the end of 2014. To -date, there have been 222 traffic deaths in Minnesota compared to 280 at this time last year. The leak Adam Potter created a deadly cloud that was heading toward the Randolph School, threatening the Sean Qualy welfare of children in the school. Quick action by initial responders in evacuating residents Audra Rawlings and working traffic control resulted in few injuries to people. Gordy Steffel Steve Theriault A visitor to the Hastings courthouse last week received a welcome he did not expect. It Dmitriy Vecherkov seems the man had an outstanding felony warrant and, when learning of this, he bolted Mike Vikesland from the courthouse with deputies in foot pursuit. Upon reaching his car the man left at Todd West a high rate of speed and was pursued for a short distance until the case was called off by Sergeant Bruce Kammen, due to congested traffic on Highway 61 and the fact he had been identified. While the suspect evaded immediate capture, his freedom was short - lived as he was arrested on Friday in St. Paul. In addition to the original warrant, he now Questions? faces several more felony counts, including damage to property and fleeing from a peace Comments? officer.
