Emergency Preparedness
The city council will soon participate in
emergency preparedness training specific to
their role in the event of a local disaster. The
police department, fire department and Dakota
County emergency preparedness staff will
train council members and some city staff
members on what needs to occur at the
elected official level to get the recovery
process started. This training will go a long
way towards getting another piece of the
puzzle in place before this type of work is
needed from us as a city. The training will
take place in a work session and will offer the
council an opportunity to understand their role
and ask questions on the facilitators with first
hand experience in disaster response.
Human Resources
At their meeting this week the city council
approved an increase in the FTE to full time for
our human resources coordinator position.
This is the position that Mary Hapka filled for
many years before leaving us a few weeks ago.
The new position will be responsible for the
human resources program at the city. The
work will include updating our personnel policy,
job descriptions and coordinating all staff
recruitment efforts for our organization. In
addition, this position will be responsible for
workers compensation, benefits administration
and more. If you know of someone who has
experience in public sector human resources
please let them know about this position. The
position is open for applications until
Wednesday, June 1, 2011.
Robert Street Improvements
The City of West St. Paul hosted a
neighborhood meeting in conjunction with the
Dakota County Regional Chamber of
Commerce to discuss improvements to Robert
Street. Jake Sedlacek attended this meeting
on Thursday morning to hear more about the
timeline for the project and progress so far.
Several business owners were in attendance,
with questions on cost to the city, access to
business and the length of the construction
project. The City of West St. Paul is looking
for feedback from businesses and citizens
alike: concerns about the road, and ideas for
the redesign of Robert Street. You can visit
www.ci.west-saint-paul.mn.us to find out more
about the project and review studies which
have been conducted to date. Look under
Newsworthy, and click on the Robert Street
Improvements link.

City Hall Makeover
Mendota Heights City Hall started to get a
makeover this week. Pictures submitted as
a part of the Winter Wonderland Photo
Contest have now been placed around the
building for the public to view. In many
cases these new pictures replace artwork
that was originally placed in the building in
1989. In addition to the new pictures, once
the new facilities manager is hired a plan
for replacing carpet and updating wall
coverings will be developed and start to be
implemented. Thank you to all of the
residents who were involved in the photo
contest that resulted in our ability to share
these new views of Mendota Heights with
everyone who visits City Hall. Please feel
free to stop in and check out the pictures
during regular business hours.
