Res 2008-81 Seeking Funding for Program:1 1 1• ! ! 11 ! RESOLUTION NO. 08-81 WHEREAS, the Minnesota State Legislature has mandated that communities in the metropolitan area implement recycling programs in order to reduce the volume of waste being taken for burial in landfills; and WHEREAS, Dakota County has adopted a solid waste master plan which sets goals and targets for the accomplishment of solid waste recycling in each community in the County; and WHEREAS, Dakota County provides the local communities with grant funding for implementation and maintenance of local community recycling programs; and WHEREAS, The City of Mendota Heights has participated faithfully and successfully in the Community Landfill Abatement Program from 1989 to 2008 and will continue to participate in 2009; and WHEREAS, The City of Mendota Heights supports a joint application by ISD 197, Somerset Elementary School for Local Negotiated Initiative Funding for a cafeteria composting project in 2009. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights that the City Council does hereby transmit the 2009 funding request, seeking funds in the amount of $13,900 for solid waste abatement in 2009. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Mendota Heights that the City Council approves of a 2009 Local Negotiated Initiative Fund grant to Somerset Elementary, seeking funds in the amount of $6,201 for a for a Cafeteria Compost Project in 2009.
