Henry Enrique "Erik" Estrada (born March 16, 1949) was a full‐time deputy
sheriff in Bedford County, Virginia and an actor, mostly known for his lead role
in the 1977–1983 United States police television series CHiP’s. He later became
known for his work in Spanish language telenovels, and in more recent years, his
appearances in reality television shows, infomercials and as a regular voice on
the Adult Swim series Sealab 2021.
Sergeant Brian Convery and Ofϐicer Peyton Fleming had
their celebrity moment with everyone's favorite CHiP,
Frank Poncherello. Erik Estrada "Ponch" ‐ was at Bethel
Baptist Church in Sunϐish Lake on Tuesday night for a
movie screening of "Finding Faith," a movie advocating
internet safety for children, revealing true stories and
experience from ofϐicers on the Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force. http://ϐindingfaithϐilm.com/about/.
Dakota County residents can now safely and anonymously dispose of their prescription drugs and
over‐the‐counter medication at the City of Mendota Heights Police Department. The collection box,
which is free to the public, can be found located in the police department vestibule where it is
accessible 24/7.
For a list of medication types accepted, visit the Sheriff's Ofϐice Prescription Drug Drop‐Off
page. For those items not accepted in the collection box, please consult The Recycling Zone
website or call them at 651.905.4520. The Recycling Zone does not accept certain types of
prescriptions, over‐the‐counter medication or hazardous materials.
Over‐the‐counter medications and prescriptions can pollute our waters and be harmful to humans,
ϐish, and other wildlife when disposed of improperly. Please do not ϐlush medications down the
toilet or place in the trash.
They had a blast talking with this genuine and funny star about topics dear to our public safety
hearts. Erik remains very involved and supportive of law enforcement initiatives such as Internet
Safety, DARE, International Crimes Against Children, car seat inspections and installations and
other wonderful charities such as United Way.

Back in the Swing of Things Friday 1232 hours
Teachers at Somerset Elementary were put to the test when two children at recess
decided to climb into a black leather handicap swing together, seated back to back ,when
they got wedged too tight and could not get out. Teachers were unable to pull them out;
so with the kind assistance from MH Public Works, the swing was cut and the children
went happily back into school.
Warrant Arrest Friday 1706 hours
A man whose brother was taken to DC Jail the previous day, came in to the PD in need of a
civil standby to retrieve property for his brother at his brothers home. Well, turns out he
had a warrant out for his arrest; he must have really missed his brother and wanted to join
him. He was transported to Dakota County Jail. Should’ve stayed home...
DAR/Careless/Open Bottles/Speed Saturday 0356 hours
Ofϐicer Steve Meyer was enroute code 3 to assist WSPPD on a call when a car in front of
him on Hwy 13 sped up and tried to evade him rather than pull over to allow the squad to
pass. The car was stopped just into the city of West St Paul as soon as contact was made
with the driver it was obvious why the driver thought running was a good idea. He had
been drinking as had the rest of the under age occupants of the car. The driver was
revoked. In all, Ofϐicer Meyer issued 7 citations, oops might have been a better idea to pull
over and let him get to the call he was headed to in the ϐirst place.
DW-I Thank You Sunday 0020 hours
Ofϐicer Michael Shepard was on patrol on NB Delaware Ave when he spotted a vehicle with
its brights on; he ϐlashed the driver but got no response. The driver then passed Ofϐicer
Shepard and radar indicated 50 mph. The driver then signaled left on Hwy 110 and turned
using the far outside lane. Emergency lights were activated. The vehicle pulled over and
stopped in the middle of the road. As Ofϐicer Shepard approached the vehicle he spotted a
beer bottle between two child car seats and a strong odor of alcohol. The driver was asked
how much he had consumed and he stated, “not many.” Later he was asked again how
much he had to drink and he stated he’d had just one beer; he was then asked if it was the
one in the backseat; he said “yes” however, that beer was full and sealed. He was then
asked to step out of the vehicle to perform ϐield sobriety tests. He exited the vehicle saying
“thank you.” Needless to say, all tests failed and he was transported to Dakota County Jail
and booked for DWI.
Ding Dong Sunday 1702 hours
Ofϐicer Todd Rosse was called to a neighborhood on a report of juveniles playing ding
dong ditch. RP states this is an ongoing problem in the neighborhood and that she will get
the word out to other parents and kids about the seriousness of the game. Area checked,

Counterfeit Money Monday 1451 hours
Sergeant Neil Garlock meet with an employee of the bank after a business deposit was
turned with the night drop containing fake money. The bank made contact with
business who had no idea when or who turned in the bank. Investigator Chad Willson
began working with neighboring police departments to tie them together. With the fake
twenties showing up repeatedly, the crook is likely from the area.
Dog Bite Monday 1858 hours
Sergeant Convery was dispatched to report of a dog bite. The family of the victim was
visiting from out‐of‐state for a few days at their parents home when their daughter was
rubbing her grandparent’s dogs ears. The dog began to growl and show his teeth. The
child continued touching the dog when the dog bit her in the face. The child was
transported to the ER. The dog does not have a history of aggression and thankfully,
it’s shots were up‐to‐date. The dog will be staying elsewhere until the family goes back
home. The investigation continues into the potential of declaring the dog dangerous.
Allergic Reaction Tuesday 1330 hours
Ofϐicer John Larrive responded along with HealthEast Paramedics to a local business
where an employee had been stung by a bee. Unfortunately for the young man he began
having an allergic reaction. He tried Benadryl before calling the ambulance. Medics
transported the young man to the hospital.
Headlight out / Warrant Arrest Wednesday 0042 hours
While working trafϐic Ofϐicer Tanner Spicer spotted a car with a headlight out. A trafϐic
stop was made, the driver was ID'ed by MN D/L. An in squad computer check revealed
the driver had an active warrant out of Itasca County in northern MN. After the warrant
was conϐirmed the driver was arrested and given a ride to the Dakota County Jail.
Caution-Deer Crossing SIGN Wednesday 0100 hours
Ofϐicer Denise Urmann and Ofϐicer Peyton Fleming were dispatched to the area of
Wachtler Ave on the sounds of an accident. They were unable to locate the crash.
At 0124 hours they were called to assist WSP with a father/son domestic who were
arguing how the son came home very intoxicated with extensive damage to his truck.
The vehicle was found as the son left the scene and ϐled on foot home. Ofϐicers went
back to Wachtler area to notice a large deer crossing sign to be bent in half and a metal
post snapped off. The damage to the truck matched the impact to the sign. Driver was
cited for DUI. Not only should you watch for deer crossing but apparently the signs as
well.
Drunk Wednesday 0132 hours
Caller reported his 22YOA was drunk and belligerent. Ofϐicer Fleming responded to the
area unfortunately the young man had already driven off towards St. Paul.
RP called in stating
her concern of two
suspects sitting in
their cars and then
just walking around
aimlessly in business
parking lot. No harm
intended, just out
picking mushrooms!
RP came into lobby to
report that two deer
had just took their
lives and jumped from
the Mendota Heights
Road bridge onto 35E.
Area checked,
deer deceased.
