STATE OF MINNESOTA
Minutes of Workshop
City Council and Airport Relations Commission
Held Tuesday, August 3, 2004
Mayor Huber called a joint workshop with the City Council and Airport Relations Commission
to order at 6:15 p.m. Mayor Huber, Councihnembers Vitelli, Duggan, Schneeman were
present. Airport Relations Commissioner Chair Beaty, and Airport Relations Commissioners
Petschel, Stein, Fitzer, Edstrom and Povolny were present. Councilmember Krebsbach and
Airport Relations Commissioner Roszak arrived 15 minutes late.
Scott Beaty, Airport Relations Commission Chair provided the participants with an airport
history and overview.
Following the history update, there was a discussion on the Garron- Acacia site and whether or
not it was appropriate for the Airport Relations Commission to make recommendations to the
i City Council on land use issues. There was a general consensus of the Council that, if there
were airport issues involved, it was appropriate for the Airport Relations Commission to make
recommendations to the City Council on land use. Councilmember Krebsbach disagreed, she
did not feel that it was appropriate for the Airport Relation Commission to make land use
recommendations.
There was then a discussion on the Airport Relations Commission Plan of Action. It was
decided that the Airport Relations Commission and the NOC representative would work
together to develop two or three issues to be worked on. Once these issues were developed
then it would be sent to the City Council as a recommendation for City Council review and
approval before any action was taken on them.
Councilmember Krebsbach recommended that the Airport Relations Commission meetings be
cable cast a minimum of four times a year. The Airport Relations Commission agreed to
consider this proposal at their next meeting for a recommendation to go back to Council.
Airport Relations Commission attendance at NOC meetings was discussed. Councilmember
Vitelli felt that Airport Relations Commission members should periodically attend NOC
meetings in order to get a feeling for what was going on at those meetings and to be able to
give him advice on how to act.
Mayor Huber asked about what the group felt on what next steps should be taken in addressing
Airport Relations Commission/Council issues - it was agreed that a follow up meeting should
occur in six months.
Mayor Huber adjourned the meeting at 7:20 p.m.
