PROCLAIMING JULY 2026 AS "PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH"
WHEREAS, parks and recreation programs are an integral part of communities
throughout this country, including Mendota Heights; and
WHEREAS, our parks and recreation facilities and programs are vitally important to
establishing and maintaining the quality of life in Mendota Heights, improving the physical,
mental and emotional health of all citizens, and contributing to the economic and
environmental well-being of our community; and
WHEREAS, the parks and recreation programs increase our community's economic
prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased
tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and
WHEREAS, parks and recreation are fundamental to the environmental well-being of
our community because they improve water quality, protect groundwater, prevent flooding,
improve air quality, provide vegetative buffers to development, and produce habitats for
wildlife; and
WHEREAS, the National Recreation and Park Association has celebrated the annual
Park and Recreation Month since 1985, and the City of Mendota Heights recognizes the
benefits derived from parks and recreation resources.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Mendota Heights, Dakota County, Minnesota, does hereby proclaim the month of July 2026
as Parks and Recreation Month.
