Res 2026-23 Arbor Day ProclamationCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS DAKOTA COUNTY, MINNESOTA WHEREAS, in 1872, the Nebraska Board of Agriculture established a special day to be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can be a solution to combat climate change by reducing the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cutting heating and cooling costs, moderating the temperature, cleaning the air, producing life-giving oxygen, and providing habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource, increase properly values in our city, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mendota Heights City Council that all citizens are urged to plant trees to promote the well-being of future generations. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Mendota Heights City Council as follows: I, Stephanie B. Levine, Mayor of the City of Mendota Heights, do hereby proclaim Apri124, 2026 as Gl;7:Ii777:MI in Mendota Heights and I urge all people to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and urban forest.
