THE LATEST
Senate Bonding Tour
On Tuesday, January 18, the City of Mendota Heights along with the Oȟéyawahe Task
Force hosted the Minnesota Senate Capital Investment Committee at City Hall to discuss
the City’s bonding proposal for site improvements at Oȟéyawahe/Historic Pilot Knob. The
City is requesting one million dollars from the State as a part of the 2022 bonding bill for
predesign, design, and construction for improved access to the federally recognized historic
site as well as cultural and natural resources improvements.
Oȟéyawahe is located in Mendota Heights overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi
and Minnesota Rivers, or Bdote Mni Sota, considered by many Dakota people as the center
of the earth. The Dakota Name, Oȟéyawahe, can be translated as “a sacred place much
visited; the place where people go for burials.”
The tour by the Senate Capital Investment Committee follows the recent tour by the
Minnesota House Capital Investment Committee that took place on November 9,
2021. These visits help to inform the legislators about the proposed bonding projects and
help them to decide which ones they want to fund.

COVID-19 information
Dakota County experiencing high COVID-19 transmission risk:
The Minnesota Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control are
recommending that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people in Dakota County wear
masks indoors. Dakota County is currently experiencing what the CDC defines as
high transmission risk of COVID 19. MDH recommends wearing a high-quality mask
to help limit COVID-19, including variants like Omicron. Examples of high-quality
masks include N95 or KN95 masks, which are very good at blocking droplets. If you
do not have this type of mask, wear a mask with two or more layers of tightly woven
fabric. You can also layer a disposable mask under a cloth mask to increase
effectiveness. The cloth mask should press the edges of the disposable mask snugly
against your face. Look for masks with nose wires. They can improve fit and help
reduce gaps or holes. More information on the City’s COVID-19 guidance plan is
available at mendotaheightsmn.gov/covid19.
