Saturday, May 15 | 10 a.m. to noon at Mendakota Park
Join us for a behind the scenes tour and get up and close to tons of big rigs—fire trucks,
police squads, mowers, plow trucks, and more! Activities will include kids games, photo
opportunities, and refreshments. This is a free community event - no registration required.

Walk-ins for Minnesotans age 16 years and older will be accepted at state community
vaccination sites in Bloomington (Mall of America), Saint Paul (Roy Wilkins Auditorium),
Lino Lakes and Oakdale. Walk-ins for Minnesotans age 18 years and older will be accepted
at Mankato, Duluth, Rochester and St. Cloud. Parental/guardian consent required for 16-
and 17-year-olds.
State Fairgrounds appointments
Mendota Heights residents living in the 55118 zip code, and who are 16 years of age and
older, are eligible to receive a free vaccination at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. This site
is being operated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and is offering
appointments through June 9. See the MN State Fairgrounds COVID-19 Vaccination flier for
details. Make an appointment online for this site online or call 833-431-2053.
Find a free community testing event
The Minnesota Department of Health continues to host both saliva and nasal swab testing
events throughout Minnesota. Tests are free and insurance is not required.

Has COVID-19 made it difficult for you to pay for
internet service?
The Federal Communications Commission has launched a temporary program to help
families and households struggling to afford Internet service during the COVID-19
pandemic. The Emergency Broadband Benefit provides a discount of up to $50 per month
toward broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households
on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount of up to
$100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.
Eligible households can enroll through a participating broadband provider or directly with the
Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) using an online or mail in application.

State of the City address
Tuesday, May 18 | 5 p.m.
Please join Mayor Stephanie Levine as she presents the 2021 State of the City address for
Mendota Heights. Mayor Levine will review 2020, and outline the City’s plans looking ahead
throughout 2021.
This event will be LIVE in the Mendota Heights City Council Chambers—1101 Victoria
Curve. For people wishing to attend in person, doors will open at 4:30 p.m., with the State of
the City presentation to begin at 5 p.m. The presentation will be followed by time for
questions and answers. It will conclude promptly at 5:45 p.m., so as to allow sufficient time
to changeover the Council Chambers to the regular City Council meeting, which begins at 6
p.m.
Because of current social distancing restrictions, seating in the Council Chambers will be
limited. We ask that people planning to attend in person to RSVP to City Hall by 4:30 p.m.
on Monday, May 17. Seats will be available on a first come, first served basis.
If you can’t join us in person, you can watch it live via NDC4/Town Square Television
webstreaming, or view on Comcast Channel 18.
Hiring for City Hall Office Support Assistant
The City of Mendota Heights is hiring for an experienced professional to join our
administrative support team as an Office Support Assistant. This position performs
administrative work coordinating and completing a variety of clerical and administrative
support tasks including answering a multi-line telephone, routing calls, providing information
in person and over the phone, and processing permits. The position assists the public and
city departments with general administrative work and clerical tasks.
This is a part-time job share (approximately 20 hours per week), non-exempt, non-union
position with the following schedule: Thursday, Friday and every other Wednesday. The
schedule may vary from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Two years of experience in general office and administrative clerical work, including

Don't toss your plant pots in the recycling!
Why? Recyclers don't like black plastics because optical sorting machines cannot identify
them and manufacturers don't like them because they cannot dye the plastic another color.
Several local stores are accepting empty plant pots, including Home Depot in Eagan and
Inver Grove Heights, and Lowes in West St. Paul.
Upcoming recycling events
St. Louis Park Gardener's Swap
Thursday, May 20, 5:30-7pm
This free event is open to everyone and is a great opportunity to share extra plants or clear
out gardening tools you no longer use, then take home new treasures. No items may be
sold at this event; everything must be given and taken freely. Visit the website for details on

Join the Recycling Tour
May 25, 6:30–7:30 p.m. Register
As we wait for in-person tours to resume, take part in a virtual recycling tour this month.
Eureka Recycling will walk us through their operation using facility videos and answer
questions you have about recycling collection.
Boat Wrap Recycling
Through June 15
Drop off boat wrap at Lighthouse Motorsports and Marine in
Rosemount during regular business hours. Call 651-322-
4420 before dropping off. The type of plastic used to wrap
boats requires special handling and cannot be placed with
regular home recycling. Remove all straps, cords, rocks and
gravel. Transhield covers and fabric liners, including plastic
wrap with fabric, are not accepted.
South St. Paul Compost Site is open
Take home FREE compost for your garden.
The Compost Site is open Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (operation is
weather dependent). The compost site accepts yard waste such as grass clippings and
leaves. Fees are $0.50 per standard sized bag and $1 per larger plastic bag or barrel.
Volume-based fees are charged for pickup truck loads.
NATURAL RESOURCES
Planting for pollinators at Valley Park
Volunteers will be working with Great River Greening to plant native pollinator-friendly plants
and shrubs in Valley Park on Saturday, May 22 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. This planting event
is part of the restoration work being done throughout the Xcel corridor in Valley Park that will
provide important pollinator habitat. The project is part of the larger Metro Big Rivers Phase
8 Project to restore and enhance natural systems associated with Mississippi, Minnesota,
and St. Croix Rivers in the metropolitan area, and is funded in part by the Clean Water Land
and Legacy Amendment. For more information regarding the event, please visit Great River

The City of Mendota Heights is developing a Strategic Plan that will provide long term
direction and guide future maintenance and improvement decisions for the City's parks and
recreation system.
Please help prioritize Mendota Heights Parks and Recreation opportunities, by taking this

Permit requests open for field and facility rentals
Due June 1 for first consideration on events August through November
Permit requests for field and facility reservations at Mendota Heights parks, for events
taking place August through November of this year, are due on June 1, 2021, for first
consideration. Reservations received after the deadline will be handled on a first-come, first

Officer Scott Patrick Memorial 5K Walk/Run
Saturday, June 5 | 9 a.m. at Market Square Park
Participate in the Officer Scott Patrick Memorial 5K Walk/Run to benefit Special Olympics of
Minnesota. Registration is $25 before June 5 or $30 on the day of the event. Register online
under Special Events or use the registration form. Registration forms are also available at
City Hall during business hours.
