1985-09-10 Parks and Rec Comm MinutesCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES September 10, 1985 The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Stein at 7:30 P.M. on September 10, 1985. The following members were present: Stein, Damberg, Doffing, Knittig, Leffert, Schneeman and Singer. Also present were Barry Warner of Barton-Aschman Associates, Inc., and Public Works Director Jim Danielson, APPROVAL OF Minutes of the August 13, 1985 meeting were approved as submitted. MINUTES COMPREHENSIVE PARK Barry Warner, Sr. Associate with Barton-Aschman, Inc., made a STUDY presentation concerning time frame, various phases of the study, and completion of the proposal and contract. Discussion con- tinued on bond issues and available land for park use. RILEY APT. PROJECT Discussion was held regarding proposed Riley apartment project near I-494. A request was submitted to ask the City Council to allow the Park and Recreation Commission to be involved in the discussion of the project. A request also was made of City Council to allow the Commission members to each receive a copy of the South East Area Study. WACHTLER PROPERTY Discussion was held on the proposal of offer to purchase the property owned by the Wachtler family for use as a park and recreation area, RECREATION REPORT Dewey Selander, recreation director, is in the process at present of hiring ice rink attendants for the coming season. The procedure for the operation of the ice rinks will be the same as last year. A request was proposed to the Chair to have a representative of the Mend -Eagan Athletic Association present at our next meeting. MAINTENANCE REPORT It was suggested that repairs are needed on the baseball field at Marie Park. BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL Due to the pending comprehensive park study about to begin, COURTS the decision was reached that the commission would postpone the installation of volleyball and basketball courts. A request was then made of Barton-Aschman Associates to study the project and determine in which parks the courts are needed. BIKE TRAIL An update was presented on the bike trails. After discussion, the commission saw a need for additional work on various parts of the bike trail. It was requested of Sim Danielson to study the problems and report back to the commission. Park and Rec Minutes, September 10, 1985 Page Two OTHER BUSINESS A request was made of Mr. Danielson to provide each commission member with a completed 1986 budget. Discussion was held on a letter received by City Administrator Frazell concerning the lowering of the level of Rogers Lake. It was decided to refer this matter to the consultants doing the park study. COUNCIL REPS Doffing will attend the September 17 Council meeting and Schneeman will attend the October 1 City Council meeting. MISCELLANEOUS The next meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission will be Tuesday, October 8, 1985.
