1983-01-11 Parks and Rec Comm MinutesCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
January 11, 1983
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bayless at 7:30 P.M. The following
members were present: Bayless, Schneeman, McMonigal, Stein and Doffing. Williams
was excused and Gustafson was unexcused.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Bob Doffing and approved.
Maintenance Report: Literski noted that the skating rinks were flooded the week
before Christmas. The night crew is working fine and the weather has been too
warm to really have good ice. It was suggested that perhaps the ice rink flooding
might work better if the shift started at 10:00 P.M.
Rogers Lake Beach: The signs are finished and in place, noting the closing of the
Rogers Lake Beach and the telephone has been removed.
Recreation Report - Selander: All ice rink attendants have been hired with most
positions being filled by local neighborhood kids. Boot hockey, especially at
Friendly Hills, seems to be a problem as the older kids seem to be dominating
the rink. A discussion ensued as to the feasibility of asking for an ordinance
or to take the question before the City Council.
A possible solution was suggested that perhaps we could provide extra goal nets to
accommodate both skating hockey players and boot hockey players. It was also
suggested that boot hockey is certainly a more constructive activity than having
the kids hanging around drinking.
Wentworth park warming house door handle needs repair.
Valley Park Beaver Problem: the seven beavers have been trapped and drowned out of
Valley Park. A discussion ensued as to why the City took this action based on
previous comments from the Park Board.
Park Related Ordinances: Jim Stein received copies of all ordinances pertaining to
the parks. These ordinances have been reviewed.
Trails Committee, A report was given by Bob Doffing, Trail Committee Chairman,
regarding the Trails Committee meeting held in October. Photographs and a map
of the Eagan High Line Trail were presented. The next Trail Committee meeting
will be held in conjunction with the next Park Board meeting on February 8th.
Each member of the Park Board will try to bring another Mendota Heights resident
to serve on the Trail Committee.
Commission Calendar: A calendar for the Commission members for 1983 will be
published with assignments made for attendance. Bayless and Doffing will attend
the next City Council meeting.
Old Business: Dorothy McMonigal will call her contacts regarding the wood duck he
for our ponds.
Birch agreement: The agreement is in Mr. Birch's hands. Meeting adjourned at 9:4b
Submitted by Bob Doffing, Secretary.
