PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
September 13, 1983
The
regular
meeting of
the Mendota
Heights
at and Recreation Commission was
called to
order at 7:30 P.M.
by Chairman
Bayless.
Members present were: Bayless,
Doffing,

Schneeman,
Stein and
Williams. Also present was Terry Blum.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as submitted.
MAINTENANCE REPORT -
Terry
Blum
reported that
the
bridge at
Rogers Lake
is nearly
completed. The maintenance
crews
will
be working on
the
parking
lot there.
The commission discussed the possibility of blacktopping the pedway between 4th
Avenue and Wentworth Park. It was the general concensus that the crushed rock pathway
is adequate, therefore, after discussion, the blacktopping possibility was dismissed.
Doffing said he had been approached about the City providing nets for :the soccer
goals. Jim Stein suggested that if Mend/Eagan Athletic Association would buy their own
nets, the Board would see that the hooks to hold them are put up on the existing poles.
The Commission will consider setting cross-country trails this winter, with a
rented machine ($45.00 per hour).
BEAVER PROBLEM - McMonigal and Knittig reported a successful meeting with several
neighbors of Valley Park and Jim Malkowski and Denis Hahn, Dodge Nature Center naturalists.
They felt it was beneficial in calming the fears the neighbors, Jane Hansen, Connie
Raddatz and Marilyn Horowitz had about the beaver. Malkowski, Director of the Dodge
Nature Center, offered the services of the Center to help the beaver and neighbors live
side by side. No evidence of beaver could be found that afternoon.
TOT
EQUIPMENT -
Doffing recommended that the committee appointed to work
with the
residents
equipment
interested
could be as
in tot equipment study
simple as two swings,
the matter further. Bayless said
a slide, and a balance beam in two
the tot
parks.
TRAILS - Stein recommended that the commission and interested persons actively pursue
bike trails in Mendota Heights from a safety standpoint. Doffing further suggested
that the commission use the existing trails plan to that end. The Trails Committee
will meet Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 P.M., to put together a proposal to present
to the commission.
McMonigal and Knittig will attend the September 20th City Council meeting and
report on the beaver.
The next meeting will be October llth, at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Marsha Knittig, Secretary
