Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as prepared. Maintenance Report - Dick Ploumen, Public Works Supervisor, reported the following: A satellite in Wentworth Park had been burned with no other damage to the area. The rinks in Ivy and Friendly Hills Parks have been spray painted. Missing boards on the Wentworth rink have been replaced with treated lumber. Public Works has purchased an auger. Recreation Report - Dewey Selander reported that the summer recreation program is over and seemed to go well. New additions to the program were pictures of the T-ball teams and trophies for men's and women's softball. The parks will have hockey and open skating this winter. The first Mendota Heights Junior Tennis Tournament was held August 5 - 7, under the direction of Mike Williams, Dewey Selander and Ken Dwyer. Selander said that the 34 participants and the total cost of $600 - $700 was a good beginning for such a tournament. Future tournaments with earlier and better publicity in the area newspapers and tennis newsletters should attract more participants. Tot Equipment Request - Judy Arbit and Lynn Bell presented the commission with a request for playground equipment for toddlers and handicapped children, groups they feel have been overlooked in our city parks. Stein told them that the park board could do very little and encouraged them and the residents they represented to approach the City Council with their $2388.00 request. Stein moved that the Commission appoint a committee to work with the interested residents, studying the proposal and consid- ering a location and suitable equipment. Doffing seconded the motion. Doffing, Stein, and Bayless volunteered to serve on the committee. Valley Park Beaver - Bayless reported that a resident of the Valley Park area, Leonard Horowitz, 1779 Trail Road, believes that the beaver are back in the pond his yard borders and is concerned that they will cause problems to his landscaping. Mc- Monigal and Knittig will meet with Dodge Nature Center naturalists on this matter and work with the residents.
