MINUTES
JUNE 14, 1983
The regular meeting of the Mendota Heights Park and Recreation Commission
was called to order at 7:00 P.M, by Chairperson Bayless. Members present were
Bayless, Doffing, Knittig, McMonigal, Schneeman, Stein and Williams. Also
present was Terry Blum.
Minutes of the previous meeting were corrected to credit Bayless with the
survey of Friendly Hills park. Minutes were approved.
Maintenance Report - Terry Blum reported that.. the warming house at Ivy Falls
Park had been vandalized. Several lights were broken and the walls were damaged.
Maintenance in the parks included: repairing a bench at Ivy Falls Park, hauling
rock to the ball fields in Marie, Valley and Wentworth Parks, applying weed kill
around hockey rinks, and applying preservative to park signs.
Recreation Report - Bayless, reporting for Dewey Selander, said that summer
recreation programs were "underway and under control". Arts and crafts programs
are being held in Friendly Hills and Marie Parks
Certificate for Rudy Literski - McMonigal moved that the Commission present Rudy
Literski with a certificate making him an honorary consultant to the Park and
Recreation Commission. Stein seconded the motion. Passed. Bayless will have
the certificate prepared.
Tennis Tournament - Williams reported that a Twin City wide unsanctioned junior
tennis tournament could still be planned and held in the City's park system this
July or August. It would be conducted as a sanctioned tournament, under the
guidelines of the U.S. Lawn Tennis Association. The commission has several resource
people, in addition to Dewey Selander, to set up the tournament,

Valley Park - McMonigal reported a large number of complaints by a resident of 'the
neighborhood adjoining Valley Park:
1. Large amount of broken glass in the park..
2. Men with guns in the park on a regular basis.
3. The City'a handling of the beaver.
Action by the. commission was twofold. Bayless will ask the City Police to patrol

Doffing moved that no action be taken in respect to wildlife in City p
without prior consultation of the Park and Recreation Commission; that no
destruction of wildlife be taken without prior approval by the City Council.
Stein seconded the motion. Passed.
Council meeting - Jim Stein will attend the June 21st City Council meeting.
The next meeting of the Park Commission will be August 9th at 7:00 P.M.
