PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
October 27, 1981
1. The regular meeting of the Mendota Heights Park and Recreation Commission
was called to order by Chairman Bayless at 7:45 P.M. The following members were
present: Bayless, McMonigal, Stein, Williams, Schneeman, Doffing. Visitors:
Selander, Witt, Ploumen, Literski. Absent: Gustafson.
2. Minutes of the September 22, 1981 meeting were approved as submitted.
3. Report on Council meeting regarding Amesbury East development:
Chairman Bayless gave the Commission an overall report of the Planning
Commission and the City Council' feelings on the Park and Recreation resolution
regarding acquisition of the School District 197 property adjacent to the Friendly
Hills property. The Council and Commission projected a concern about the large
amount of a cash contribution by the developer. The Council also felt a bond
issue at the time would not be feasible because of the economic climate. A motion
was made by Williams that Chairman Bayless and Councilman Losleben undertake
negotiating with personnel of
District 197
for the 37+
acres adjacent
to the
eastern half of Friendly Hills.
Seconded
by McMonigal.
Voting: all
ayes.
4. Flooding of Hockey Rinks: general discussion, talked of the feasibility of
flooding 2-3 nights a week by volunteers. City employees would brush and the
rink attendant shovel the edges.
5. Brian Birch: Regarding 110 and 149 property, Chairman Bayless was unable
to contact him.
6. Visit of County Planners, a view of maps and information on County bike trails.
7. Literski: reported that three of the new excelsior targets had been burned.
He requested monies for martin houses and wood duck houses for the ponds in the
parks. Resolution was made by McMonigal, seconded by Stein, for buying of
various bird houses and posts not exceed $400. Voting: all ayes.
8. Bike Trails, A resolution: Be it resolved to support the County's past efforts
to establish county bike trails and we strongly encourage theirefforts and we
further recommend the City Council support their policies.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 P.M.
