1981-10-27 Parks and Rec Comm MinutesCITY OF MENDOTA HEIGHTS PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES October 27, 1981 1. The regular meeting of the Mendota Heights Park and Recreation Commission was called to order by Chairman Bayless at 7:45 P.M. The following members were present: Bayless, McMonigal, Stein, Williams, Schneeman, Doffing. Visitors: Selander, Witt, Ploumen, Literski. Absent: Gustafson. 2. Minutes of the September 22, 1981 meeting were approved as submitted. 3. Report on Council meeting regarding Amesbury East development: Chairman Bayless gave the Commission an overall report of the Planning Commission and the City Council' feelings on the Park and Recreation resolution regarding acquisition of the School District 197 property adjacent to the Friendly Hills property. The Council and Commission projected a concern about the large amount of a cash contribution by the developer. The Council also felt a bond issue at the time would not be feasible because of the economic climate. A motion was made by Williams that Chairman Bayless and Councilman Losleben undertake negotiating with personnel of District 197 for the 37+ acres adjacent to the eastern half of Friendly Hills. Seconded by McMonigal. Voting: all ayes. 4. Flooding of Hockey Rinks: general discussion, talked of the feasibility of flooding 2-3 nights a week by volunteers. City employees would brush and the rink attendant shovel the edges. 5. Brian Birch: Regarding 110 and 149 property, Chairman Bayless was unable to contact him. 6. Visit of County Planners, a view of maps and information on County bike trails. 7. Literski: reported that three of the new excelsior targets had been burned. He requested monies for martin houses and wood duck houses for the ponds in the parks. Resolution was made by McMonigal, seconded by Stein, for buying of various bird houses and posts not exceed $400. Voting: all ayes. 8. Bike Trails, A resolution: Be it resolved to support the County's past efforts to establish county bike trails and we strongly encourage theirefforts and we further recommend the City Council support their policies. The meeting adjourned at 9:35 P.M. The members of the Planning Commission have requested that a written report from the Park and Recreation Commission members be included with the Planning Commission agenda which will be mailed on January 21, 1981. If, after reviewing these minutes, you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or mail me any written comments and I will see that they are distributed to the Planning Commission members. I realize that your next meeting is scheduled for January 27th, the same evening as the Planning Commission meeting, but if there is some way that you can discuss this matter with the other Park and Rec members, it would be greatly appreciated.
