1979-04-24 Parks and Rec Comm MinutesMENDOTA HEIGHTS PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION Minutes, April 24, 1979 Present: Literski, Mills, Lundeen, MCMonigal, Williams Finn, Selander Absent: Gustafson, Murphy Minutes of March 27, 1979 meeting approved. Up -date on School Property Acquisition Discussion was made involving possible problem in that said property is land locked on north side and public access is impossible. Teachers possible ob- jections because of plantings. Discussion was also made as to whether Mr. Wachtler has been approached and the availability of his property and his willingness to sell. Friendly Hills Tennis Court Parking Lot It was recommended that room be made for seven cars, parked at an angle, with one way driveway in and out. Upon removal of one tree, there would be room for an additional five cars or a total of twelve parking spaces, if needed. Spring Recreation Program Discussion made as to whether cancelled registrations should be awarded re- funds, decision negative. Discussion concerning late registration fee proposed for next year. Specific time and day will be posted for registration in advance. made to register after poste to for late $10.00 will be imposed. There will be one da this date, no registrations will be accepted. a fee of Womens Organized Tennis Program Concern shown that organized teams and regimented activities would close courts to spontaneous family play. Are Sibley, St. Thomas or Visitation courts available for team use? Motion made to support tennis programs if we can get courts available to us other than our own park system courts. Boche Ball Sets Three (3) Boche Ball Sets were made available to Mendota Heights Parks ttarough the former governer. Minutes for April 24, 1979 Cont. Literski reported A. Young people will he hired again to coach T. Ball. B. More young people are needed at $2.00 per hour. C. Senior life guard needed. D. New park signs are up. Roger Lake Play Equipment Discussion was made whether the play equipment needs up -dating. Should culverts be replaced with balance beam? No decision made. Williams' report on Rogers Lake level An up -date and short history was given. Motion made: We recommend, based on extensive study, it is not economically feasible to develop further. Rogers Lake level to be left permanently as is. Bond Issue Discussion continued on bond issue. Agreed first step is acknowledgement of need, or comprehensive plan, and approval and adoption of said plan by Council. It should read: Howard Dahlgren encouraged property acquisition for open space use while the land was still available. He stated first priority was the Wachtler property which is 40 acres to the right of the Wachtler home and adjacent to Valley Park. Second priority is the school property. No cost estimate has been studied. Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.
