1. Diinutes of December 7, 1976 approved.
2. Wentworth Park Property - Homeowners Stasneys and Weinblatts wanted
clarification of the Park Commission's intentions re: land use. Rudy stated
it would be difficult to get in and out of the area. Mr. Weinblatt was concerned
that children would use the land to go the reservoir in Wentworth Park. It was
recommended that the City continue to hold the property as is and to notify
adjoining owners if any changes might be contemplated in the future.
3. LFest St. Paul Y.iwanis requested a wish list of projects the Cotrmission would
be interested in for 1977. Playground equipment, a nature walkway and
observation tower in Friendly Marsh, and improve Rogers Lake were mentioned.
Kevin will set up a luncheon meeting with a few Kiwanians to discuss possible
projects.
4. School property -- Eight acres parallel to Warrior Drive (across from Sibley
High School) is to be sold by the school district. Howard Dahlgren presented
maps of the area involved. It was recommended that we be kept informed by the
school board of the plans for the entire area, including the pond located
between Freeway and Callahan Place. Howard will discuss with Barbara Lukermann
and the school board the proposed plans for the area.
5. Trail and Survey -- Kevin pointed out to Howard the results of the survey and
particularly the high ranking for a trail along Dodd F.oad. Howard presented the
trail plan for the proposed Dodd Road. This project meets the criteria as set
down by the Federal Aid Urban Program. We recommended that Howard proceed with
the application (as the Council earlier directed) and Liz will follow up on the
application process.
6. Jerry Lundeen reported several
complaints
in the
operation of
Friendly Hills
skating and hockey rinks. He
will inform
Dewey
of the nature
of the complaints.
7. Mayor Lockwood and Councilman Sim Ipsleben discussed with the Commission the role
of the Commission, the feasibility of various Park and Recreation projects and
the improvement of communication between the Council, Planning Commission and the
Park and Recreation Commission.
8. Mayor
Lockwood
