1. Minutes of June 16, 1976 approved.
2. Playground equipment - Ivy Falls Park - Dan Loiselle, Engineering Aide,
made a small scale model of playground equipment the Commission would like
to have installed in Mendota Heights Parks. The Jaycees volunteered labor
which would reduce the cost of equipment to approximately $2,000 per unit.
Officially, the $1,000 offer for equipment has been withdrawn because it
won't be possible to have the equipment up this summer. The Jaycees have
other commitments and cannot get to this particular project this year.
3. Development fund money -- A motion was approved to find out from the City
Administrator or have him get a legal opinion as to what this fund can be
used for. The Commission also wants to know how much money is involved.
It is further requested that minutes and agenda of the Planning Commission be
sent to the Secretary of the Park Commission so that we will be aware of any
new land development under consideration.
4. Trails --
Franzmeier reported that
the State
has given us forms to be filled
out which
will enable us to obtain
funds for
Friendly Hills and Curley trails.
The state
will provide some fill and grading
on the easement for the Curley Trail.
5. Park -A -Rama -- The summer festival came out in the black financially. Some
organizations haven't completed their book -work so a complete report is not
available at this time. Many changes are being contemplated for future Park-
A-Ramas and will be discussed during the coming year.
6. Summer Recreation -- Selander reported that the program is getting too big for
one person to handle. People want more activities added each year. He was
advised to defer all such requests as well as umpiring requests to the Commission
so he wouldn't be burdened with more work than he has been contracted to do.
It was agreed that more people must be hired to handle the soccer and t-ball.
The budget should provide for the hiring of one person per team and at a fair
wage rate. Men's and women's softball should be self-supporting and they should
hire their own umpires.
The Commission approved the addition of a men -women Sunday night softball
program and a men -women mixed volleyball program. These programs must charge a
sufficient fee to be self-supporting and provide for payment of umpires.
There must be reliable people running the programs.
7. Roger's
Lake
-- The
right of way can
be used
as the
access
point from which the
lake can
be
stocked
with small game
fish. We
hope
to have

fisheries) tell us about stocking the lake at the August meeting.
8. Wentworth Ball Park -- The hockey and skating rinks have been raised 3 feet.
Placement of the ball park was discussed and Commission members were asked
to look over the site sometime soon to determine the best placement of the
ball field. Franzmeier was asked to estimate the cost of a crushed limerock
infield as compared with sod and the cost of leasing land behind the
shopping center for a ball filed.
9. Survey -- The Park and Recreation survey was reviewed and approved. Mills
and Witt will find out printing and mailing costs and how many homes are in
Mendota Heights. Community organizations will be asked to help pick up
completed questionnaires.
10. Budget -- Requests were discussed and Selander will review his needs and
send in his request.
