1974-07-24 Parks and Rec Comm MinutesCITY OF ME HEIGHTS PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Minutes July 24, 1974 Present Absent Finn Murphy Lundeen Allen Howe Johnson Shipman Starr Fogelson Franzmeier Selander Approval of Minutes -- June 19, 1974 minutes approved unanimously. Pilot Knob Replacement -- Funds finally being sent from HUD for present site reimbursement. -- Decided to proceed with discussion of new sites, specifically in Curley Addition and the Freeway Road area. Depth of Rogers Lake -- Decided that Park Board concern is with beach only. 1975 Budget -- Decided that Finn, Howe and Shipman would meet with Johnson to discuss subject. Summer Recreation Program (Selander) -- Discussion regarding pros and cons of beach expansion. -- Selander reviewed beach budget. -- Finn moved that the beach be kept open through Labor Day subject to the weather. Seconded by Lundeen. Passed. -- Short discussion regarding next year's program. Winter Recreation Program -- Discussion regarding ice sheet, hockey maintenance. -- Ski clinic schedule to be discussed at October meeting. Park -a -Rama Summary (Hughes) -- Financially the celebration was paid for through donations, showing a $11.77 balance. -- Discussion regarding the various activities and suggestions for next year. -- Lundeen moved that Dorothy Hughes' report be accepted with acclamation and sent on to Council. Seconded by Shipman. Passed. Park Development Status -- Franzmeier said there were several discrepancies between his and Starr's list of items to be completed. Commission directed Franzmeier to meet with Johnson (and Starr) to settle issues. Park Minutes -2- July 24, 1974 Diseased Tree .Report (Franzmeier) -- Franzmeier reported that he, as official Tree Inspector is surveying the City for Dutch Elm diseased trees. He described the new State law and what it involves. Picnic Tables -- Ivy Falls Association request for City picnic tables discussed. -- Finn moved that the request be rejected. Seconded by Fogelson. Passed. -- In response to request for tables in Ivy Hills park, the Commission suggested that Franzmeier put some tables there. Mendota Heights JC's -- Howe reported that the new Mendota Heights JC unit has requested suggestions for projects. -- Decided that Howe send a letter on behalf of Commission congratulating JC's on organization and suggesting various projects. Trails Report -- Meierotto briefly reported on previously mailed draft. -- Howe suggested that instead of rewriting report, that changes or critiques be attached as an addendum to it. -- Finn moved that the Trails Report and trails concept be approved by the Parks and Recreation Commission and recommend its approval by the Council. Seconded by Fogelson. Passed.
